Filters

Hi everyone. I have some very 'noobie' questions. We are using a Secondnature Whisper Power Filter. We buy the bags that go over the frame and then pour the charcoal in. We also have a undergravel power head thing. Now I know this will sound stupid, but shouldn't there be some kind of filter between the stuff the power head sucks down and then what it blows back out? We bought it at our local pet store (not chain) and they didn't ask or mention anything else to get. It just seems weird. Plus, curiosity got the best of me and I looked at the under side of the tank. Ugh!!!!! So, if I missed the part of using a filter with and undergravel powerhead, please let me know.. Thanks
Debbie

not to many people on here like the UGF set up for some of that reason and it really donst suck up all the debrees properly any way. i kno there is a power head with a filter set up on it but i would see you having to replace it alot or buy lump sum of filter floss and replace it once a week or more depending how it works im not sure you can try that or shake the idea of a UGF... and/or place the filter closer to the UGF head

We got the shop vac out and sucked up a lot, but it still is gross. Now is not a good time for a big purchase, so will vacuuming at least every two weeks help out?

sounds good to me.... what ever works haha. never thought of using a shop vac if its working stay with it if you deside to get away from the ugf then all you will need is a gravel vac. i wonder if a shop vac would work better then any thing else haha. j/k

lol correction wet/dry vac! Makes a difference I think.J/K
I use a gravel vac also, it just doesn't seem to get the stuff under the filter. It really can't be good for the fish for that yuck to be there.
