Re: aqua clear filters ? 150 gph

First of all, three 150gph filters is insanely too much current unless you're keeping some of the hillstream loaches or mountain stream plecos for a 10g tank. What is in the tank? No the cubes don't go bad, they are only a surface for bacteria to grow on. The cubes do nothing but maximize amount of surface available for bacteria to grow on. Perhaps the bag of media cubes got shaken and chipped in shipment or some such, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: aqua clear filters ? 150 gph

Those fish could be kept by themselves (just the two of them) in the 10g with normal filtration for about 6 months before becoming a problem.

The gold angelfish comes from areas with almost no current, it will probably have all kinds of fin issues (bent fins, etc) with that much current, as well as being stressed. It is like keeping polar bears on the equator...

But neither need to be in that tank past 6 months of age.

Good luck and hope you have other stuff that needs the filtration, hate to put good filters to waste.

I agree. Filtration overkill, but your bacteria are safe. The good news is, when MTS strikes, you will already have extra filters ready to go for your new tanks!

Re: aqua clear filters ? 150 gph

I have aquaclear filters with the bio-rings also. the package with mine said to rinse them well before using to get the dust off. When I rinsed mine lots of white dust came off of them, probably from friction during manufacture or shipping.
I think it's just the dust from the media that your seeing.

Wow I hate to piggyback on old threads but I hate to start new ones and take up space - how often should you replace the carbon and/or sponge parts (can't you just rinse off the sponge rather than replace it?) of the aqua clear filters?

Yes, rinseing is the best way to go.

Starting new threads is not a problem.

It is considered more polite to start a new thread than revive an old one.
