I have a 220l tank and an external Aqua one Cf1000 canister filter. Yesterday i decided to clean it out... Washed the filter media in used water and came to set it back up. First problem was an air lock, so i had to disconnect the pipe to pour water in to top it up and open the cap on the top of the filter to top it up..... so far so good! then i noticed i had leaks coming from the cap and also from the connectors onto the pipes. I got out the vaseline as per the LFS instructions and smeared it over all the leaking areas. This morning i noticed a bit of a drip on top of the canister, as i went to touch the outlet connector the pipe came away and water started pouring all over the carpet. My wife is not happy!

I now do not feel comfortable with it and was wondering if i would be better off with two Fluval 4+ internal filters?

hmmm not real good with cannisters since I have not used them but have messed with them in lfs's. I would say get out the instructions manual and try setting it up with that again and put it in a 5 gallon bucket to make sure it doesn't make a mess. I don't like the internal fluval filters due to the pain they are to clean by pulling them out of the water to clean them and that they take up space. I perfer hang on back filters if you could find them if you don't like your cannister filter.
