Eheim VS Rena

I'm looking at getting a canister filter for my new tank.

I think I have narrowed it down to 2 choices, I was wondering if anyone had any input on either of these filters or any other suggestions.

Re: Eheim VS Rena

Eheim is known at the cream of the crop when it comes to canisters. The others have not been around as long, but I have read on forums folks still using their eheims they bought 20 years ago! I don't think you could go wrong getting an eheim, and the type you are looking at appears to be the same model our own Chickadee has and is trying to sell. You may want to send her a pm about hers if she still has it.

I went for the Filstars and do not regret my choice. I chose the Filstars because of price, separate baskets of media which makes cleaning much easier, auto shut off if the motor overheats, and it's usually self priming after you first start it. From time to time, I have to play with it a little to get it going again, but it's usually a breeze to clean and run. Mine are also practically silent. Sometimes I put my hands on top of them to make sure they are running.

Isabella got an XP filter and had problems right away, but just about everyone I've read about that bought one loves it. I have and XP2 and XP3 running on my 100 gal. oscar tank. Sometimes I don't clean them for 2 months!
