where did the picture go?

I've noticed in a few threads that aren't brand-new that I am seeing for the first time, the OP will be referring to their picture...and there's no picture. It's not that they never posted a picture, bc subsequent posters will be replying to the OP and also mentioning the picture.

I've also seen threads (brand new) where the OP has a pic and it's there plain as day...then I revisit the thread a day or so later and there's no picture.

Pretty sure my eyes are working ...what's going on does the picture only stay in the thread so long?

most of the time the prog they use to post their pics(photo bucket, imageshare etc), have either had a limit, they moved them from the original place and the link was cut, or they removed their pics....

shawnie is correct If you have your pics stores somewhere (photobucket, imageshack, another website etc.) If you move or delete them they will disappear from where ever you have them posted.
Also some of the Pics in posts/threads from before Mike updated the site disappeared into picture heaven We don't know why or where they went

I noticed in the last day and especially today that new threads that had photos yesterday do not have them today, not all but some. Im not sure that their photo 'time limit' would be up so fast? I also wondered what happened to the photos in those threads as well. These were not archived threads but ones that were just started in the last few days. Hopefully the folks that posted those photos will respond and let us know if they deleted them or not.

A member pm'd me last night to let me know they deleted a picture from their album which also removed it from their post.
I wonder if this is what you were seeing? (or not seeing )

Thats very possible Lucy. ... maybe that is the thread that the OP and myself found to be missing the photos?

its not so much their photo time limit as it is the amount of photos they have uploaded prior or after that particular one..most progs only allot a certain amount of space to each person for uploading and most of us exceed that

That's why when I add pics I upload from my own computer. I have done that in the past and then deleted the original and it doesn't seem to have any effect out here in internet land.

Since I'm thinking of it - Shawnie you had a thread a short bit ago I believe was called 'grab bag of everything' or something similar, with some very lovely pictures. What I'm curious about is how you got the thumbnails embedded within the text like that? It looked really nice. Were they attached from your computer or from an outside program? Every time I attach thumbnails from my computer they all end up attached to the end of the post, and it would be nice sometimes to attach a description to each pic. (I have read all the how-to stuff, I didn't find this).

If you upload your pics to photo bucket, thenyou can copy and paste the url of the pic in your post and add descriptions.

I like seeing each pic described...type of fish..name etc.

I like it because I can delete the pics on my computer but they'll still be in photobucket and in posts on the forum.
Like when Prissy got real sick or a pic of my filter and how I slowed down the flow, no sense in taking up room on the computer for those types of things.

This is true. However I've had my iMac for 2.5 years now, and I still have 140 GB on the hard drive and a 320 GB external hard drive nearly empty, and not a lot of spare time.... (Yeah I do save lotsa stuff). Whichever works the easiest!

HI prairielilly...I attach with from my pc ..to get the pic where you want it in your thread, is just a matter of putting your mouse where you want it, and then click the upload button making sure the entire url is at the part of the thread ....if I write about the pic, I upload one pic at a time then type in my description..then move the mouse below then upload another pic then add the txt after it and so on..

Ah so it has to be a url, as in somewhere on the internet like Photobucket? although you mentioned from your pc, so how does it have a url? I prefer to attach from my computer. Thanks for the info though!

when you attach a pic from your computer , which is what I do, but it puts up a [ATTACH] type format..whether you have a url from a site, or the ATTACH from uploading from your pc, you still can write txt beside the wording...
Happy Face colour BOLD.JPG<--without spaces beside the number

[ATTACH] 24382 [/ATTACH] I put spaces in where the number of the pic is so you can see it what it looks like added from your computer.. and then you can <---type whatever you want beside the last word [/ATTACH] ...does that make more sense?

Let's see..

[ATTACH]DSC00421[/ATTACH] <-- if I'm getting this, this should work

apparently not... the 'DSC00421' is the filename of the pic I attached. Let's try this again...

I am potentially picture-attachment illiterate...eeerrrggg...

Starting to feel just a wee bit too blonde here... Might just have to let this die, putting them at the end is not exactly horrible...

I suspect you have a different editor or toolbar than I do (attaching pic of mine). The only paperclip icons I have are the one for uploading pics (gives me the exact same popup as the 'manage attachments' button, which you said not to use, and which puts them at the end), and the ones for creating or breaking url links. None of them give an 'attach' tag; that was in my previous post bc I typed it there.

I thought this might be a Mac computer thing (that's pretty common) so I opened up Windows and logged in using IE, same thing.

Ah, poor Shawnie...pretty patient lady!

Don't feel too bad, it behaves the same way for me in Windows and OS X.

I'm not sure how Shawnie is doing it all in one step, but the ATTACH tag relies on an attachment ID value, not the file name. Once you've used the Manage Attachments window to upload a file, you can hover your mouse over the file name in the 'Attach Files' section and see the attachment ID in the browser's status bar:

attachid.jpg

The syntax I used to attach that image was [ ATTACH]24394[/ATTACH] (without the space in the first attach tag).

Or, if you don't feel like going that route, you can use the IMG tag to embed images. You do need a full URL, such as http://photobucket.com/whatever/mypicture.jpg, but an easy way around that is to upload the picture to a FishLore album. Viewing any picture in your album should have a "Picture URL" section beneath the picture where you can copy/paste. For example:

[ IMG]http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/members/mathas/albums/misc-pictures/4551-cory-2.jpg[/IMG] without the space in the first image tag would yield:

OK one last shot this had better work...

DSC00421.JPG< --- ppllleeeaaaasssseee...

Edit: mathas you rock! Thanks so much! Shawnie too! heeheeheehee

Edit 2: This is going to be one of those 'Marsha learned the hard way as per usual but now everyone will know so it's all good!' type things I just know it...smiles...
