To all Canadian members

I was talking to the manager of a pet store today(a mom and pop type), and he said that the CDN government is now making it manditory for all aquarium med's, and vitamins/supplements be tested before they sre allowed into the stores. Only one company is registering for those changes and they still haven't done that. So there will be no more Melafix, Pimafix, all the products from API, etc. allowed to be sold in Canada. This could just be for Winnipeg, but checked with your LFS a.s.a.p. and if it is so, make sure you have all the meds, etc you will need when they are not allowed on the shelves.

Re: To all Canadian members

you could sneak across the border to the US to buy some .. it's not exactly hard to get into the US from the south : so it shouldn't be too hard from the north.

Why sneak when I am going there this weekend? I will see if they have any where I am going.

argh @ the gov't!! I can't get Bio-Spira here because of the laws too and I a long way from the border to drive down to buy meds if I need them. Doesn't the gov't have anything better to do than mess with fish meds

So since I still don't have fish since I'm still cycling, any recommendations on what I should look at getting before this takes effect??

I don't know if it is true or the owner was saying that to get me to buy stuff, but still check with your stores. For the meds, I would advise getting MelaFix(Bettafix, if you want bettas), and anything that deals with ICH and othe diseases. I don't know if Cycle, plant foods, test kits, etc. will be taken off the store shelves or not, but it wouldn't hurt to get some anyways. I use Cycle instead of Bio-Spira only because of availableity, and cost.

I feel sorry for you guys, this is why I'm so against "Big" government here in the US. The smaller and less obtrusive the better.

amen to that - our gov't is way too BIG (ie: bloated, corrupt & worthless) as it is. People here buy prescriptions from Canada because our gov't does nothing to help us against the greedy drug companies (greed loves & buys greed).. maybe some fish meds businesses like that will pop up in the US for Canadians dealing with their gov't.

Tom - would packages from 'friends' in the US be searched or anything? if worst comes to worst, maybe fish meds you need can be mailed in from people in the US?

Re: To all Canadian members

The only problem is, my parents don't have any friends in the U.S. that I know of. The only way is if one of the members close to the border(CDN&US) ships them over the border for me that is able for me to trust.

Tom
well, i know the end cost to you would be more with the double shipping & all, but if this happens there, we'd be glad to do meds orders for you. you could order a fair supply of meds at once to make for less shipments and less shipping cost to you.

That would be great, I will kep that in mind, it's just that I don't buy very many meds, I have Melafix, Bettafix, and something for both internal and external(both in one) parisites. Other than those, I don't use any other meds. The stuff for the parisites is the same company I get my plant food from, Seachem. Does Melafix/Bettafix ever expire?

Re: To all Canadian members

I live by the border. If it's true I think I could work something out. My mom's friend sells lots of stuff on ebay so I could have you send him the money and I could purchase some for you and get cheap shipping probably from him. So if FLbettacouple doesn't work out let me know, I live in Ohio.

Re: To all Canadian members

I think it would be better if ATM sends it, since the shipping won't be as much from Florida to Winnipeg, compared to Ohio to Winnipeg. Thanks, at least I know that some people in the US are looking out for me. ATM, why don't you set up an ebay account and sell me the stuff your self?

I'm not 18 so I can't have a credit card, otherwise I would. Though I'm looking into getting a p.o. box this fall or winter so I can trade frags and plants.

I'm not 18 and I have my own ebay account, my parents use their credit card and I pay them back when they get the statement.

Re: To all Canadian members

Tom is there any way you can check to see what the government is doing so you will know for yourself ? Or e-mail the med companies and ask them. We need more information!

The only info I have is from the store manager and it isn't a lot(all listed above). I would probably have to spend a few days looking into it, but I could dig up some more on the subject for here.

Re: To all Canadian members

Here's another idea. It's pretty well known that human meds are cheaper in Canada, and there are people down here who can't afford those meds?

You people in Canada are going to be needing fin-rot meds and that sort of thing.

I think the solution is pretty obvious.

All out war to determine who gets all the meds.
