It's entirely up to everyone's PCs, routers, and ISPs to get the DNS stuff down. For windows users, use the command I posted above. For Mac users, umm, I dunno but I'm sure there's a very clever and absolutely beautiful way to do it

ipconfig /flushdns

That will flush the local cache and force it to contact the provider's dns server to get the correct address.

If that doesn't work, it may be his provider still has the old record. Only time will fix that. Usually no more than a couple days.

For grins, he can also try accessing it by IP address (not sure if the forum software will allow that): http://174.123.200.146

[Edit: The server must be set up with host headers, as the IP address just brings you to the default apache page, so that won't work]

Awesome info Pete - thanks for that.

Since every other site are working fine, I really do not know what is the problem except that my IP address could be banned or something. Now I am accessing the forum through some proxy server located in China (it was pain to find a working one at the first place, pages were loading very slowely with lot of failures). I also tried to access it via different ISP (good old dial-up in that case) and laso got problem. Could this be an indication of a more serious problem with DNS or some techy stuff?

Anyway, it is good to be here
Try what Pete said and if that doesn't work you may just have to wait a bit longer for your ISP to pick up the address for the site.

Thanks for all the hard work Mike, we really do appreciate it.
Lucy must have ninja'ed the locks. LOL. Ken may have to wait a bit longer until his ISP picks up the site again. I can tell by looking at the logs how it was a rolling blackout and then the stats started climbing again this moring into the evening. Hopefully he will be able to pull up the site tonight or tomorrow morn.

I nearly died when I couldn't access the site. I had this happen to me before with a popular chinchilla forum I used to get on. Unfortunetly with that situation we never got the site back up and running and all the information on that forum was lost.
I'm so glad everything is up and running with the forum again! Thanks Mike!!

There has to be a way for people to contact other people outside the fourm. For example, if I can't get to the forum, i'd sure like to know if I could contact someone to tell me what the heck is going on. Is there someone in the know who would care to share their email with me so I could email that person in case something happens? Promise not to share that email with anyone else

I just set up a twitter account too. If something should happen to the db or the site again I'll use it to post status updates. http://twitter.com/fishlore

Thanks,

It would be very helpful to get emails from somewhere too.

But if the site is down for some reason, like the database for instance, there won't be a way to retrieve the email addy's to send out a status email to the members.

Nope, just go to http://www.twitter.com/fishlore and it will have the latest messages from me. Twitter is really simple which is part of the reason for it's massive growth.
