| Forum Suggestion:) Hey All,
If you look at my name just underneath there are green stars and it says "Fish Mentor" I was just wondering if we could make it more specific e.g.
CLownfish Mentor, betta Mentor, Tang Mentor, Guppy Mentor, Loach Mentor, Cichlid Mentor etc etc etc.
I know it seems hard but if when the member reached the fish mentor status they could PM Mike and ask him for their individual status.
Maybe Also they could do a short 10 question test on the fish to prove that they know about that fish. I will put these tests together myself if you wish Mike.
Thanks Alot,
Matt |

| I think matt those are just fun titles and arent something that means alot...if its that easy, im sure mike wouldnt mind but with all the members we have now, and the multitude of fish we love and keep, im not sure but that might be an overload to add and for him to change it every time someone asks ..im sure mike will have a definite answer when he see's it |

| Hi Matt
The name's/title are in correlation with how many posts a member makes and it changes accordingly. It wouldnt be a good idea to personalize the title, with everyone changing their post count all the time, and hence the title changes, that would really be a lot of extra work for someone when its just not necessary. |

| As a "newbie" I think you quickly learn that certain people know ALOT about certain things....Shawnie "queen of TSS", Lucy "queen of shrimp cycling, lots of Beta help", I PM Aquariest48 if I need blood parrot help. I know I always look at aquarium info, and what people have in their tanks and how long they have been fish keeping is really helpful. It's not to say that lots and lots more people don't have GREAT advice, but as above the info keeps changing. The one thing on the names I sort of disagree with, is lately I have seen lots of "poll" type stuff. Brand new people with little experience, up their "status name" when the post polls and then answer all the responses. Moderators do a wonderful job of keeping this in check, and each person has to be responsible for both the info they give, and the advice they follow. Just my two cents. Thanks for ALL the help...you guys rock! |

| On the flipside of what Kim said, doing this would also risk pigeon-holing members into particular roles.
We don't want to give people the idea that a person's knowledge is limited to one fish, nor do we want to give the idea that that person knows everything about a particular kind of fish.
That's not to say that we shouldn't recognize those who know quite a bit about a particular subject, just that we should recognize it by what they say, not a tag under their names.
It's a neat idea. I just think that it could create the wrong impressions in the forum. |

| That is exactly what I meant (you said it much better), I look at the advice they give (and of course how they give it I think one of the best parts of the forum, is that the more experienced are very quick to say when they don't know about a particular question. I think (could be wrong) that anyone who gets to moderator status show ms a pattern of good, sound advice. I'll certainly keep asking the questions since the people who have patiently answered my questions, have kept my sanity and my fishies alive. |

| Thats a good idea in theory but what happens when someone requests that they wanna be a betta mentor but all of their posts/advice would make you think otherwise, that they don't know the first thing about keeping a betta? We could get around it by "screening" (quizzes like Matt mentioned) people for the titles but I think that would become a big headache. |

| Mike i was sitting in school today thinking about ways to make that easier and i found 3.
The 1st solution is: I could be incharge of all that i.e. I will make quizzes, get PM"s and then recommend the people to you and you can give them their title.
The 2nd SOlution is: We have a 20 question quiz on the fish and if they get more than 75% right we automatically give them their title.
The 3rd Solution is: We have more general titles e.g. saltwater fish Mentor, Cichlid Mentor, freshwater fish mentor etc etc.
I hope you take these points into consideration and i am more than happy to help if you select the 1st solution.
Thanks,
Matt |

Matt | IMO Matt this is all very unnecessary. We all know that the titles under our screen names are just titles that have been made up randomly to indicate the number of posts one has at the time and that they change when the post count goes up in degree's. No one really pays much attention to those, other than yourself and I agree with Mike, it would just be an added headache that is totally not necessary for the forum as a whole. Do we really need quizzes here in the forum? Suggestions are always appreciated, but I believe that the decision has been made on this idea and we should move on from here.. |

| What's the problem with having a plain title? What if a person titles,"clownfish mentor" answers a question regarding a bala shark? The person who started the thread might not believe the person who replies but his answer is actually the right one? |

| LOL..sometimes 'if it isn't broke don't fix it' actually does make some sense in most situations. But an idea is a true invention of the mind, don't apologize for it. |

| I agree with others regarding the name change thing but you may be on to something with a "quiz"
It might help people learn more about fishkeeping and be fun as well. I know some posters think they know more than they do...myself included. It might be a good way to make me focus my learning on certain topics. I dont think there would need to be any reward or public ridicule or stone throwing though. LOL |

Well I thought that asking questions and reading from other threads we all learn a bit more not less, from the forum. We also expand our knowledge through research and experience. This forum I think is so that we don't need quiz's, lol.. one can always research their own special interest to further their knowledge, a quiz..whats that for? |

| I understand that we learn from experience and research. I was just thinking it would be fun to have a monthly quiz to see where we may need to improve and focus.
It wouldn't have to be in the form of a quiz. Maybe a crossword puzzle or something.
Anyhoo...just thinking aloud. LOL |

| Some where here we have an alphabet thread -goes this way. First one names something pertaining to fish or aquariums that starts with an A then the next one names something that starts with a B. Along those line we could start a thread that asks questions.
When some one gets the answer correct according to the OP someone will ask another question. What do you think? Not like a quiz but something we can all participate in.
