Suggestion

Could you add a quiz to become a moderator? I think having more moderators would be helpful. '

Just curious, why do you think the forum needs more mods? I was thinking the other day that perhaps a mod or two would be helpful from maybe Australia (or overseas where ever the most non-American members are). I only thought that it would be more helpful to "out of this country members" to have mods that were more familiar with products that are sold in their respective areas.

Mods on Fishlore actually aren't really picked for their knowledge about aquaria (though that is still a bit necessary). They're picked because much of the forum trusts them, and because they have an ability to be diplomatic.

Because of that, Mike isn't likely to be able to be able to come up with a quiz to become a mod, nor are international mods really necessary (not that they aren't welcome. We used to have a couple, but they haven't signed on in over a year).

I've said this in another thread, and I'm just going to point it out here: if you're trying to become a mod, you likely won't be. I don't know of any of the current mods who asked to be mods. Instead, Mike watches people who are helpful, polite, and respected, and then asks them to do the same things they had been doing up until that point, but have a little "Moderator" title under their name.

I wasn't trying to become a mod. I just was wondering why couldn't there be a quiz to become a moderator. But the quiz could probably be about situations and how to handle them.

I've taken quizzes that are supposedly meant to indicate how effective of a leader someone is (they're often used to weed out manager applicants in large corporations), and they fail remarkably. They just don't work out. It's like trying to make a quiz that determines if a person is a good painter, and no quiz would be able to tell how respected a person is in Fishlore.

The quiz is actually the posting behavior of the member. It is simple really. Members that are helpful, nice, respectful and follow the simple rules here are the ones that are asked to be mods. It has very little to do with fishkeeping knowledge. There are lots of people that know a lot about fishkeeping but don't necessarily have the temperament to be a mod (my opinion only of course). If it looks like the mods are getting swamped or overworked we usually try to add more moderators.

I agree with Mike And SDS. Although i dont think a few international mods would be a bad idea.

I am not trying to become a moderator by saying that either Mike it is my honest opinion.

I myself have had some "Misunderstandings" on the forum with other members and i fear that may cost me a spot as a moderator aswell so i am not expecting to become a Mod. But i am learning to absorb other peoples opinions and have learnt they are really helpful.

Well, your right.. and once again, I don't want to be a moderator. I was just wondering if there could be a quiz to become a moderator and now you've answered my question.
