Suggestion for “aquarium info”

Under aquarium info I would like to suggest that rather then ask “Aquarium Age” you ask “Aquarium Start Date”. Or something to that effect.

When I signed up as a new member here I can remember thinking darn I don’t want to have to update this every day, week, month, year so I simply put in the date that I got my tank. This seems to be an area new folks don’t update often enough.

In the case of a member’s info showing 2 years old when it is actually 3 years old it doesn’t much matter. But in the case of new member registering and posting 3 days old (therefore un-cycled) when they post a question 4 weeks later (when possibly cycled) it can effect advice being offered.

Just my thoughts.

I agree with Dozey on this one!

I've had a few experiences with that kind of confusion and I second Dozey's suggestion!

Indeed; that is why I put my aquarium age as the date I set it up.

In my aquarium info I didn't want to keep updating it either, so I just put "since June 2008" or whateva...

Excellent idea - I just changed the "age" to "start date".

Yeah, and if they say they don't know what the nitrogen cycle is, they should be directed to a page of links explaining fish tank rules, like the 1 gallon per inch one and the nitrogen cycle.

That's kind of already there... When you register the question is "Do you know about the nitrogen cycle" and the nitrogen cycle is linked.
