A new section?

I was wondering what you all thought about another section. (Or if this idea already exists could you link me to it?)

How about a section on human health related to aquarium keeping?

That way we would have a place to talk about stings, bites, scrapes, rashes, etc.

How about another section on the little critters that lurk in our tanks? (nematodes, planaria, little things we need identified, etc)

Thoughts?

That would be helpful especially in SW. For example in the soft coral species: zoanthids are very toxic. Which can cause illness and in rare cases the worst

It would be nice to have a place to research the corals we know to be dangerous. Pictures, reactions, etc.

I read that there are octopuses that are toxic.

All octopi are toxic. Because their stomach is on the outside of the body, it can't contain any acids, so they inject something into their prey to facilitate digestion.

That being said, I have to say that I haven't really noticed any posts of this kind, so I don't know how necessary such a subsection would be. I think that posting such questions under the heading of the creature in question, or in General Discussion, would likely work.

Of course, Mike will have the final say, and he'll likely notice this thread sometime today.

Well, I have been battling some freakish rash since late last year. When I get something written about it, pictures posted, treatments tried, problem solved, or even and idea of what it is I will try to get it posted. I think it would be great to have a resource like that because I am going all over the internet looking at research, videos, blogs, MD help sites, etc. I don't have a creature in question to post about, but that is a good suggestion, SDS.

ha - I just thought of another possibility for a thread - How about a UFO site? "unidentified fish tank organisms." Would be good to have a definite location to post pictures or videos of things we find in our tanks that we need identified. (Having someone tell you it is planeria, nematodes, dangerous, harmless, treatment, etc. would be super handy.) It would beat simply doing a generic search for "bug," "tiny white speck," or "critter" etc etc etc.

I realize that more sections just lead to more places to moderate. But who knows, having a place to talk about it could potential lead to a lot of sharing of information and experiences.

Emory,
Your are correct in that certain octopi are venemous. Especially the blue ringed octopus. It is a very beautiful creature but it is deadly.

Can you guys think of any other reasons/topics that could be posted in a section like this?

Johnny - I think I'll just admire pictures and videos of them.

Alex - Thanks.

I'm unwillingly leaning towards cercarial dermatitis aka swimmers itch aka schistosome dermatitis right now. My next step is to research my snails to see where they typically come from and if they are likely intermediate hosts.
