More fish profiles?

Is there any way to suggest some different fish to create profiles for?
I have Blind Cave Tetras, they are getting quite popular to have in aquariums, but we don't have a profile for them.
Also, a lot of the catfish Pictus, USD, etc.
Or African Cichlids? Steveangela could def. contribute to those profiles.

You should write an article on them for the magazine. I did one for glassfish. It won't necessarily get added to the column on the right side main page, but it will be in the magazine.

I'll look into it.
But I was just wondering about the profils, because if anyone from fishlore is using them to stock a tank, it's quite limited.

That's why we're using the magazine articles to add to the list. And, I stand corrected. The profile for glassfish has been added to the column. I think it just took Mike a bit to do it.

Basically, someone needs to actually write the articles. We can't just copy another website (nor would we necessarily want to). Looking at it, the list has grown about twice as long as it was when I first joined (in fact, it's getting to the point where it may deserve its own page), so people have been doing a good job of adding to it. So write that article about Blind Cave Tetras, and convince Angela to start writing profiles of various cichlids. If we work at it, we can end up with a very enviable profile list.

Alright, lol.
To write the articles, I should just compile research, and my own experience?

That's what I did.
I started by writing out the parameters that a typical profile covered, and then I did research on a bunch of different websites. This helped separate fact from fiction. I didn't just look at aquarium websites. I also looked at the fishes' natural habitat, which further helped weed out the bad info.
I filled this info out with my own personal experience, and compiled everything into the standard Fishlore fish profile format.

I think I will.
I'd like to see some other profiles added as well, so I'll see what info I can scrape together on other fish I've been looking at.

Mike always invites people to contribute when he puts out the magazine, so I'm sure he'd love to have anything you'd like to put together

It would be fun for me to put together profiles, plus it'd be helping me b/c I'd be learning new info to help here on the forum.
Plus, since a lot of fish stores (both chain & local) are expanding their livestock, it'd be good to also expand the profiles here on fishlore.

Yep, if anyone wants to help out with the magazine by writing a care profile, aquarium equipment review, general fishkeeping, or any other type of article that would be interesting to us crazy fishkeepers you can send it to me (support at fishlore dot com). I'd need it a couple of days before the end of the month to get it ready for the 1st of the month for release. Be sure to credit any sources of info used too. You can type it up in word, email or plain text and I'll format it for the magazine.

If we don't have pics of the fish ourselves, where do we get pics from?

I'd imagine a site like Wikipedia or something that has free images. Then we just credit the source.

Amanda, i guess asking how you like the blind tetras is sorta odd at this point considering you want to see a profile written up on them...I've seen them at the LFS and always wondered about them, there behaviour, there habits, feeding requirements?......Your the first member i seen make mention of them......Any suggestions for tankmates?

BCT are AWESOME to say the least!
They're SUPER active all the time, light (obviously) has no effect on their activity.
Mine eat from the bottom of the tank, they'll eat anything that sinks to the bottom. One does eat from the top, but he doesn't do so well. They're a very pretty fish also, they get an iridescent look to them. They get along with everything in my tank, although they will nip at fins until they figure out it isn't food.

Thanks for the info, they might make the cut for a planted 55 im setting up in my den........Do you know how large they get?......I have seen from 2" to possibly 4", although 4 seems rather large for tetra.....You have any info on how they would do in a tank with freshwater shrimp?.......If they roam the bottom, i wonder if they are gonna bother my cherry shrimp?......There is not alot of info on this fish that i found.....

Mine are around 3 in. now, they are a larger size tetra. I'm not sure how large cherry shrimp are, but if it fits in their mouth, they may try to eat it.

I made some profiles on afras, polits, yellow labs, and kenyi and emailed them to Mike. I hope he likes them. I also put my personal pics up of each.
If its a go, I will get more of the common mbuna like acei, red zebras, cobalts.

Yeah, just putting this out there: I wrote my article on Shellie Cichlids without ever owning or even seeing a live one. I just got motivated, did a bunch of reasearch, and popped it out. I also was able to use a photo from Wikipedia, I just had to recognize the photographer.

I wouldn't mind writing up a few articles I'll check the list of profiles and see if there are any fish that I have experience with that aren't included on there. Mike, I didn't know that we could just email them to you or I would have done it earlier!
