| Reading the Aquarium Info! Hey, as I've been answering peoples post lately, I've noticed that a lot of people don't take the time to read the person's tank information, they just answer the question that was asked. This is an exaggeration, but the question may refer to one guppy dying, when they have 4 clown loaches, an oscar, and a pacu in a ten gallon tank. Not that the guppy wasn't important, but the other problems with the tank are what people should be focusing on.
Just something to keep in mind. |

| That's a good idea, megusta.
I just looked at your aquarium info and noticed that your brochis are named Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky. I love it!!! |

| Thanks, I'm actually not that big or a classical music fan, but I was playing two pieces on the piano by them at the time, and I just loved their names! |

| When I brought up stocking problems on a post, I got told that that wasn't what the post was about & for me to focus on the problem. |

| Well, whoever told you that was wrong, in my personal opinion. If people want to be silly heads, we just have to let them, but I feel for their fish. |

But anyways... Back ON topic... |

Just something to keep in mind. | I do understand your frustration about this. However, let's look at this from another angle.
Many times members don't update their tank info.
While I do agree, we should point out that overstocking/uncycled/incompatable tanks mates as listed in their aquarium info could be the cause potential problems, I have seen many posts where exception is taken if it's mentioned but not asked about by the OP.
Edit: Wow, I typed slow. Amanda's post is an example of what I was saying. |

| Yeah, I guess that makes sense, but I still think its good just to mention it as a problem. |

| I agree, we all should keep our aquarium info up to date. When someone posts a problem they are having, its a good idea to know as much info as possible. We are able to do this by pulling down their aquarium info first before we give advice. As I agree with the example that MeGustaUnaPez used for explaining what she meant, we also need to focus on the problem the OP asked about. For example, if a OP asks a question about stocking their tank or fish compatibility we all do not have to go off topic and start talking about whether their tank is cycled or not. Tho it is valid advice if someones tank is not cycled, it is not staying on the topic at hand and that can be very frustrating to the OP looking for the stocking or fish compatibility advice. It can however be a secondary part of a reply, once the original question has been answered. |

Perhaps something like asking if their tank info is correct, then "fill in the blank" could be the problem. |

| I find the aquarium info tab very helpful and also wish that folks would keep them up to date. When I come across a thread, I always check that first and if I reply I usually ask them if their aquarium info is updated if I think that it is relevant to the question asked.
But this is a good thread to remind everyone to Please... update your aquarium info. It can save a lot of questions... which will lead to quicker responses to the problem you are having. |

| It's hard to update the info when you've got more tanks then the info allows... I think i saw a thread about that awhile ago but not sure what the out come of it was... |

| I agree with Kate...I see allot of people starting a thread about a sick fish and them not getting any help with the problem at hand but a bunch of people jumping on them about stocking or another problem they might see. While it's important that other problems are fixed too it can be very frustrating for the person who started the thread and is in need of help. Those should be secondary issues delt with after the question has been answered. Not the first thing we say to the person and it should be done nicely. A lady was on here asking advice about a fish that had got beaten up or was sick, and was really sadden by it and people were really getting on her about her stocking instead of helping with the sick fish. It ended up she just needed to update her info and they were in a much bigger tank now. So very good reminder to update tank info, which i need to do. ..It is hard when you have more then 3 tanks. |

| I usually try to answer the original question first, then talk about stocking. Or if I don't know the answer, I wait until someone who does posted, so they get what they need, then mention it. |
