| Dealing with inappropriate or rude posts Hi All - this is just a reminder that you can report any posts that you come across while browsing the boards that are offensive, rude or just plain inappropriate. When you report a post a notification is sent to the moderators and we will deal with it as quickly as we can.
View this thread for details on how to report a post: How Do I: Report SPAM
If you get an inappropriate message in your profile you can also report those as well. There is a "report" link on each message on your profile page. ALSO - It's probably a good idea to turn on a feature (thanks Lucy for the idea!) that only allows your friends (contacts) to leave messages on your profile page. This means that someone has to first request a friendship and you have to approve the friendship before they can leave you a message. To enable this go to your "My Settings" page and then click on "Edit Options" or even easier just click this link: http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/pr...do=editoptions to go into your edit options page. See the attached photo for the boxes to enable this feature.
It's unfortunate that there are those that feel the need to post inappropriate things on forums but we are doing our best to get rid of them as quick as possible. Thank you to the members that do report these posts. Everyone on the forum appreciates your efforts for keeping the riff-raff to a minimum!
Thanks,
Mike |

| nicely said Mike
there have also been people who were banned, then they come back under a new username and say things about moderators, why? Last edited by Lucy; December 15th, 2008 at 10:24 AM.

Coming back under a new username doesnt change their attitudes, but gives them a chance to retaliate. We try to catch these as soon as we notice them, and then ban them again. |

| I have one suggestion and not sure if it can be fixed or not..but when there are multiple spam or inappropriate things going on, your default only lets you report spam once every 60 seconds...can that be lifted as there were multiple spam messages left at once? |

Hopefully this is something that Mike will be able to look at ... |

| Me too, and I was impressed at how quickly the dumb troll posts were zapped! |

Although we've got a lot of mods around here, there's no guarantee that any one of us will be on at a given time, and there's no guarantee that we'll notice something even if we are on.
If posts are flagged as inappropriate, we have guidance as to where we are needed most, and can take quick action. Thus, even in the middle of the night, if a post gets flagged, it's likely that one of us will notice the flag and do something about it. |

| yeah, those posts disappeared fast yesterday. I am very grateful that all of you mods are such great people, you all do a great job of keeping Fishlore safe. a rule of thumb on another forum I belong to is: our goal is to make _____________ a place where you feel comfortable letting your 6 year old son or 90 year old grandmother browse on. I thought that was kinda a funny saying! all you mods deserve pay checks (even though it wouldn't be enough to support Multiple tank maintenance)! thanks everyone -fishlover78 |

| I could never find the setting to change the 60 second reporting rule. I'm not sure there is a way to change it. |

| I don't think it is that bad... Use those 59 seconds for something useful... Contemplate the true meaning of the inappropriate message, think about what your next post could be... who knows! The possibilities are endless! |

| Bump.
This is the best way to deal with inappropriate posts. I know it can be tempting to "deal with it" by responding, but this often is just rising to the bait that a troll has put out. Often, replies of this nature end up breaking the Fishlore rules, too. |
