This idea has already been discussed and was voted down. With so many chat rooms available through places like yahoo or MSN or AOL the administrator of Fishlore felt that a chat room was not warranted here and would be putting a lot on the shoulders of the moderators who would have to be available to monitor it.
I feel that with so many folks online here all the time, it is like a chat room anyway!

How very true. I dont know if I could follow a chatroom, its hard enough keeping up with several threads at the same time!

Nemo this has been discussed numerous times and in numerous threads and was decided it was not going to happen each time. Admin is very firm in this stance.

Well, Nemo I always say.. "if it aint broken... why fix it?" We really do not need a chat room on the fish forum IMO and others have felt the same way.
We have a great community here that is readily available in seconds to respond to threads and posts they would like to.

If you want to chat with people it says in their info that they have AIM or MSN or something of the like and you can talk to people that way.

I dont want to give out my msn to just any weirdo ,,, and another reef forum that i use has a chat room and it was just a idea as it works well there and is a very popular forum for UK reefers ,,,

but it would be fishlore not just a random chat room that you make friends it would be for making like minded friends (fish people) not weirdos that like to agrue and make sexual advances every 2 mins

and i always say theres room for improvement ,,, and i bet you was one ov the first to buy a big screen tv knowing your old one wasnt broken ,,
it was just a idea as i said before this works well on another forum and people just get to know each other as open forums is less personal level and you could start up fishlore dating agency for people who have split up over to many tanks in the house lol (joke) what do the admins do if they hold a meeting that need s to be private would also work on that level aswell and make things easier but thats just my thoughts

We as moderators would know this.....how?

It's a public forum, just because people keep fish does not mean they are 'safe'.

Our members range from pre-teen to well into adulthood.

As had been said before, this was brought up to the admin and voted down.
Any more discussion of it will not change the outcome of that vote.

..and you know that doesn't happen here how Mainly because your ever vigilent (sp) Mods move,delete, and edit posts all day, and night. Many objectionable posts/pics are never/hardly ever seen by the general membership.

ahh.. no actually.. I have no flat screen tv... just the ole tv that I have had for many many years. Still works just fine.

as far as chatting with folks in the forum, you dont have to worry about random chatters. You can go through the list of those folks you want to chat with, and see if they are on MSN or AOL or Yahoo. those are private Instant messaging and you can chat there with them after sending them an invitation.
The mods and administrators have no problem communicating with each other but thanks for the concern.

In a perfect online world chat would be great but we know how the spammers and other undesirables work, so, no way on the chat.

Much of the bad stuff that gets posted is quickly dealt with by the mods who do a bang up job of keeping this place family friendly (as much as a dynamic online forum can be anyway). Adding in a chat would stress all of us out and I wouldn't want to place more of a burden on the mods who already have their hands full dealing with spammers and misbehaving members.
