Power goes to people's heads and the vindictive few amongst us spoil it for everyone else.

Peolpe wouldn't be so smart if they were named and shamed for their incorrect use of bad rep.

I have 3 - one for a blatant disagreement of an opinion of mine. One for apparently hijacking a thread, and one for allegedly advising that bettas were good with angels - when I said no such thing - I merely stated that MY betta was with a young angel and was ok for the time being.

I am sick of people half reading posts and forming opinions of people before reading and digesting the whole post. Just because someone is new to the forum doesn't make them any less knowlegeable, I agree that Post counts mean nothing - Merely a status symbol that does not reflect on the quality of your info. But yet someone saw fit to tell me that they are irrelevant by leaving neg' rep. Did it make you feel big?

Guys, it's immature, it doesn't achieve anything other than get people worked up. STOP IT. I know I'm not a mod, I don't have to be to speak for the whole forum community when I say: We will not tolorate abuse of the systems that have been implemented to improve our website!

Some of us spend a lot of time one here - not to save some immature ignoramus come here and give us a black mark because he doesn't like the name we chose for our plec.

If that's your game, then either grow up, or find another place to satisfy your spiteful ways.

I think attitude deals as much with one's reputation as does the advice he or she gives. You can be the smartest person in the world and have a bad reputation for being a sour-puss.

As for the names of reputation givers being listed, that is not something that normal members (non-moderators) have access to because frankly that would scew the system. What that means is, personA gives personB good rep and personB may feel the need to return the "favor", or personA gives personB bad rep and person B returns bad rep when personA had no reason to receive bad rep points.

I think if everyone just treats one another politely and posts the best advice they can then the system should work just fine.

Of course, it defeats the purpose. I was commenting more from the standpoint that it's amusing that when people have something to hide behind, they behave differently than when it's visible.

Regardless, any system is going to have its bugs, but overall I think the rep system is a great idea; I like it.

CWC, hope this wasn't aimed at me, I didn't want to come accross like that at all. Just that I really do think it's a good idea but the ways in which it could be abused are bringing it down.

I do think it will work, but we will have teething troubles and creases - The mods could iron out these creases if they wished. But as a regular poster, and not a mod I can't see where these creases are. If you catch my drift.

I do think it's a good idea, And I do hope it works but people need to be grown up about the whole thing.

No Steve. Nothing I said was aimed at anyone in particular, but rather meant as blanket statements for getting a point across about the differences in reputation and knowledge, and the correlation of reputation and people skills as well as knowledge.

Curiousity how do you even know if someone gave you negative feed back? So you like get an annomous memo, "you gave crummy advise and I dont like you"? Sounds like cyber bullying to me What is purpose of the comment section... maybe it would be better with out that part and run it on a positive scale? What I mean is 1 star - your advise was mostly wrong but a little right, 2 stars - your advise was better than one star, 3 star- your advise was good, 4 stars - your advise was good and well organized and understandable, 5 stars - your my hero! And just dont rate them if you really think thier advise was off the wall (0 stars for them )

Devon, I got kinda behind my back scolded for PMing someone to explain myself off the thread. So now Im affraid to PM anyone unless Im sure they like me PMing is dangerous expecially if your not happy with the person.

If you click on the scales in one of your posts, it will show you your reputation rating. I believe that the purpose of the comments section is so that the mods can see why reputation is being given, but I could be wrong about this...

For the record, I have found this thread very amusing and have no real opinions on the matter.

Steve113 - overall you've received 19 positive rep points and 3 negative rep points total. So a net of +16.

As it's been stated before, there will always be those that try to abuse these systems or use them in a way they weren't meant to be used... If I think someone has been using it incorrectly or for malicious reasons they'll get a warning and if they continue they'll be banned. Simple.

Mike, I am not purely moaning about my neg rep - Just making a general observation.

A this point I am out of this discussion. I don't want to end up throwing my dummy out of the pram over such a trivial matter. I suggest we all drop it, but that's your call.

Trio - in response to your question - Click on My Settings > My Settings at the top and you'll see all rep recieved pos and neg and any comments you've received.

So do you Moderators go around the Forum and give points to people with good Info. and whatnot? Or do you just give rep when you randomly come by good hepful info?

I can't speak for the other mods, but I can answer for myself.

I go about my normal business in the forum. If anyone says anything helpful and well-stated, even if I don't agree with it, I give reputation.

I do not search every thread for people to give reputation to, since we have a limited amount of rep to give out in a given day.

Yep thats pretty much how I do it also. Mods aren't the only one who can give reputation.

Third times the charm.
As I come across a very good post as I read daily, I give rep.
