PM Quotas

I'm trying to help someone out designing a 120 gallon tank stand, and we're both running into major communications snags with the PM limit of "one" for newb's. Is there any way the admin can bump it up to a more reasonable number, or maybe drop the next level down to say, ten posts to gain access to more PM space? This way we're not cluttering up the board with mundane discussions of woodworking minutia...

BTW, From browsing the suggestion board, I gather you just migrated to vBulletin, and from the complaints about CPU allotment errors and slow speed, I'll guess you were on SMF software before. Good choice of upgrade, you surely won't be disappointed. We just made the transition over on the motorcycle board where I'm a moderator, and the members are all tickled pink with the new setup. tremendous improvement in speed, uptime and reliability! Feel free to pick my brains if you wish. I can't actually code, but I do have an account over on vB.org and can help research site add-ons and futzing with the CMPS

Hi MagPie,
I am not a moderator but do have a few suggestions that may help you and the poster that is trying to build the 120 g tank stand. In the DIY section, there are many posts there explainning step by step instructions for building tanks, stands etc etc and there is no problem with posting over there and you will not be taking up the 'room' as you feel concerned about. The DIY section is there for that purpose.
Also, another suggestion would be to exchange your personal email address's with this poster that you are communicating with and then you are both freed from the tie up that the PM on the forum is causing you?
Just suggestions from a fellow fishlore member. good luck on those plans.

MagpieTear in the past we had a couple of problems with spam of a very mature nature (porn) and each time it was new members . so now our new members unfortunately have to pay the price until their post count is a little higher.
Kate made two very good suggestions. Use the DIY board to document each step of the stand building( this would be helpful for anyone else building a stand) or exchange email addresses.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the heads up on the DIY section, Kate. I just may go start a thread once I get some plans drawn up. We've already gone the direct email route, just seems rather restrictive to only be able to have one PM at a time, I'm used to dealing with hundreds at a time on other boards...

Hi magpie - there is a reason for the pm quota - spammers. We've been burned in the past when allowing new members the ability to pm.
