| 49gal Tall anglefish tank This will be dedicated to a 49gal tall-squarish tank I used as my main seahorse show tank. I'll have the same problems as "the tank" in terms of the coralline algae and such, but its not nearly as bad. I think I'll have better luck with it.
So, I think I'll go down and remove all the sand and aragonite, clean it up a bit, soak the filters, move it into its spot and fill it.
Plan is to now house a nice pair or quad of angels. Been a long time since I've kept them, but its another favorite of mine. Always wanted to breed them. Perhaps I can delve into that with this tank.
Ha! now I'll have to set up a 29 so I can house 8 or so to let them pair off.
God, I'm going to end up setting up all my tanks again. Grrr.
Oh well, the wife is out of town this weekend. Thats what happens when you leave me alone with nothing to do. |

| Sure Shawnie,
I bought this a few years back at Petsmart I think, and if I remember correctly it was fairly cheap, as is the stand. But its held up. Maybe if I was smart I'd reinforce it before I fill it. Hmm, that would take a bit of work though. |

And if we did it would have to be a garage cat this time but can't keep a garage cat out here in the country because we live near a highway and the one time we tried it it was hit and killed.
So, no more cats. But we have our ShihTzus which kind of takes their place for her. |

| So, 49 tall, Also setting this up with a rena filstar xp and emperor 280. Same filtration set up as "the tank". 150w heater. Bubble wand, but will have to get a new pump as the one I used for the deeper tanks isn't working. Go figure. Not sure about the rest yet.
Dark substrate or light?
Planted or fake?
Will need a large piece of slate I guess.
Can worry about that later.
Feel like I'm forgetting something. |

| Emperor filter isn't working...nor is the other one I have. I do have a 400, but it takes up too much room on the back. Maybe I'll buy another, but the filstar should be able to handle it. Should be a pretty small bio load in the end though.
Heading to the pet store for some gravel, and some plants. Not sure if I'm going to want to live plant this. I do have the lighting for it...and with it being so tall of a tank I can really let some of the plants go. Maybe I will. I'll just get a few fakes to hide the filters and fill in with live later. Going to see if they have any large slate. I'll likely have to make a trip to a different store for that.
What else? Carbon. I'm in need.
Air pump....
Maybe the wife won't look at the bank account for a couple weeks. |

| Ok,
Tank is more or less up and running. Actually, it is up and running. Both filters, think I have the emperor running now, we'll see. 3 plants becuase I hate a bare tank. A few pieces of slate...don't know what I'll do with them yet. I want a large piece so will have to look around for one. Hey I got them free though from Home Depot. They were scrap pieces about 10in x 5in or so. Can't complain about that. Neither can the wife.
Picked up a new air pump but not sure I'm going to use it yet.
What else...
Forgot to buy some carbon. Oh well, don't really need it atm.
Also don't care about the water parameters right now. Filled it with tap water, added prime to offset the chlorine.
Will have to change out the water with RO though to get the pH down. I don't think I'm going to have the same ph issues as I do with "the tank" but if so I'll just have to wait it out or take more drastic measures.
Overall, pretty unimpressive looking tank. Have some time to put it all together the way I like it before adding fish. And of course the fish are the important part, but I like a well organized, nice and natural looking tank that highlights the fish. Not the other way around. |

Held the fish from "the tank" until last weekend. Will be leaving it sit empty until any disease can run its course. In the meantime I can look for the angles and will put them in quarantine until the tank is ready. Need to get that ph down a little still. But should have that rectified by this weekend. |

Changed 10gal.
Still trying to get ph down. I haven't found the right RO/freshwater mix yet.
Want to put the PC lights back on top but a ballast is out and no money to order a new one. Also worried about the power drain I'm putting on those outlets.
Kind of a bad pic but its hard to get a good one of this tank. The lighting is weak, the tank deep, and the water dark from the tannins. Looks decent at night, but the power compacts would really help it out.
Also want to figure out something on the plants. I don't care for the plastic ones in there now, but don't want to plant it either. Last edited by FishMagnet; August 29th, 2009 at 12:08 PM.

| You could plant some nice plants in pots and set them in the tank. Actually put gravel in the bottom Of the pot)...heavey soil...I've used the the water lily mix for ponds, since I already had it. Cover the soil (after soaking it) with gravel. Could end up with a giant amazon sword specimen and nice leaves for the angels to spawn on.
Then you wouldn't need to gravel the whole tank and cleaning is a breeze!!! |

| I like that idea. Only problem is the piece of driftwood is shaped like a stump and would take up the space a large sword would need. Maybe not though. And I'd still have to replace the ballast on the light. Oh well, I'm going to end up doing that anyway as I dislike the low light level with just the flourescent. |

This was done yesterday morning at the time of the move.
All fish seem happy and normal. The water was nearly identical to the 75gal so I didn't expect any surprises. |

| As I said, its hard to get good pics of this tank...just too dark. I haven't changed anything in here yet. Won't until I move most or all of the fish back over to the 75.
But here are a few pics. |

| The angels may have fin rot. Two of the black veils are showing it.
Having trouble finding a good mixture of RO and tap water to make neutral water.
RO is coming out at 6.6 and tap at 7.8.
Need to order new filters and membrane, and some equilibriam. Then I guess I can just chemically up the ph to match the other tanks without using any tap. |

| Leaving this fishless for awhile.
I dislike its setup.
No need to have fish in it right now.
Had to take them all out for treatment anyhow, so now I have all the time in the world to tinker with how I want it.
Maybe I'll tear this one down...while I like the idea of using it for a couple pairs of angelfish, its not necessary atm. But then again, I think I should keep it up and running just in case. Don't know. |

| So much for leaving it fishless. Dropped 4 male and 6 female guppies into it to make food for the angles.
I won't be keeping them here long... |
