Heh, baby guppies already. Didn't see many but thats ok. Could be that quite a few got sucked into the filters. I need to get a permanent tank set up for them and their fry.

Temp 78
pH 6.8
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 5-10
GH -75
KH -80

1 dead guppy. 1 missing guppy.

Moved them all to the 29 along with 1 fry that was mistakingly caught.

Left whatever fry there are to see what becomes of them.

Changed 30gal. Removed the biowheel filter and put a sponge over the intake of the canister filter.

Changed 20gal.
Temp 78
PH 6.4
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5
GH 25
KH 40
The parameters are interesting to me. PH, GH, and KH have all dropped significantly. Why in this tank and not the 75? Aside from a few guppies this tank has been empty for awhile.
I noticed one guppy fry having barely any fins. Either eaten off by its siblings, or suffering from the same illness its parents had.
I'll just wait it out as I'm not putting all the fry in with the adults, and not bothering to treat this tank.

Guppy fry are doing well. Not sure how much they have been eating of the crushed flake, but they're still alive and not looking emanciated or ill so they must be getting at least some nutrition.

My wife and I have the same tank. We also got ours at Petsmart. The struggle for us has been finding a way to fill the thing visually at all levels, and to get the fish swimming at all levels. Adding some danios has helped get our tetras swimming up and down a bit, and having plant cover near the top ensures that our gouramis swim up there a fair bit.

We don't have any experience with real plants, so we have an assortment of fake plants in there now. We have a tallish grey fake rock that we wheedled the store manager out of when we bought the tank. With the full assortment of plants it doesn't look QUITE so fake, as it's not the center of attention. However, I still really want a nice, tall cypress root or something similar for the middle.

The lighting looks interesting in yours. We are currently running the stock light. With the floating plants it's not quite so bad, but still looks far from natural IMO.

Nice looking angels!

Jeff,
Its a hard tank to scape. I originally bought it for seahorses and that wasn't too hard as the horses would swim all levels, and was easy enough to add various sized rock and decorations.
I bought a small (20") dual Satellite CF for it to keep a few soft corals in with the horses and it does an amazing job of getting light down into the bottom of this tank.
I'm not using it now though, as I kept having power issues and blew one of its ballasts again. They get expensive to replace if you have to do it regularly.

Now that I've gone freshwater I've had the aquascaping issues. I feel for you. The small piece of driftwood I have in it just isn't tall enough. The fake plants are ok, but I prefer the natural look. I'd love to put some live plants in it but I'd have to go back to the other light and I just can't without running some additional outlets.
I think it would look really nice with a larger piece of driftwood exactly like what is in there now, and some very tall live plants growing up around it.

The angels are back in the 75gal until some pair up and start mating. Then I'll move a few back into this tank permanently. Hopefully I'll have the aquascape done before then. The way the angels are going I think I have some time.

Moved the guppies from the 29 back into here as the water parameters have worsened in that tank.
Oh well, one big happy guppy tank I guess.

One of the guppies finally gave birth. Can't tell how many now. Whichever it was there must be more to come as they all still appear exactly as pregnant as before.

I was right there with you last Saturday. Two of my females dropped fry. We ended up getting around 40 in the breeder net total.

Seems to be about 20 fry from this female. Still 2 females to go. Should be any day. Not sure when I'll start feeding the angels with them. I want some of them to grow out so I can have a steady stream of fry. BUT I don't need a 49gal tank full of adult guppies. I'm going to have to get some breeding nets.

Hmmm, never kept guppies for the pleasure of it. I think such a large tank is probably overkill for guppies, but I'm really kind of liking them. The colors they have nowadays are amazing.
I think years ago they used to be pretty plain. But then again, I don't recall paying much attention to the "fancy guppy". I was only interested in feeders. I should do some research.

After looking into fancy guppies I see I've been missing out. I never knew. Like I said, guppies to me were always just feeder fish. I see they are soooo much more. Amazing!

I usually load my fry up with nutrition for a week and then feed them. Guppy fry don't have a lot of meat, so that one week gets a little "chunk" on them

My daughter is the guppy finatic in the house, but I've really taken a liking to them myself. Their tails always wag I call them the golden retrievers of fish.
