| Fish suitable for 20 gallon I might be buying a 20gallon tank tomorrow. Going to do this one properly as I didnt really know what to do with the 10g tank i have now. Going to do the fishless cycle and all that stuff first.
I am going to put some of my guppies and platys and tetras into the tank. Theres 3 guppies 5 tetras and 4 platys (had 6 but 2 died overnight) and a black molly.
Dont worry not going to put them all in at once, might even keep some in the 10g.
I am upgrading as my tank is overstocked massively.
What I was wondering was what other fish would be suitable for the 20g tank along with the fish I already have, and also the correct amount of fish to have in the tank so I dont make the same mistakes as last time. (Ignore the fish I have now, I just want a number.) |

| I think with what you're adding to the 20, you'd be fully stocked. |

I agree with amanda...your 5 tetras, 3 guppies and 4 platies will full stock the 20g...what does that leave in your 10g? |

| a black molly lol, im thinking of leaving a few in the 10g tho as 1 of my platys is being bullied by another platy, its lost nearly all of its tail and is just constantly hiding now. Also, i can only seem to see 4 of my tetras, ive looked everywhere but i cant find the fifth lol, its not on the bottom or floating at the top. Any ideas? |

| id leave the bullied platy and your molly there if they get along...let the bullied one heal with daily water changes and stress coat+...move the others...and as far as your missing tetra, it could have passed and been eaten, or sucked up the filter....
so in the 20g you would have 3 guppies, 4 tetras, and 3 platies....leave that be for a couple weeks of a good cycle, and then maybe add 3 pygmy cories? you might have to do extra water changes, but its doable...then in the 10g after your poor bullied guy has healed, add one more platy and one more mollie with some cool plants? |

| If your current tank is already cycled, you can use some of the filter media and gravel in the new tank to help along the cycle.
As far as what fish, I like what you have. And yesterday, people here talked me into the corydora catfish. I wasn't so sure about them, but I bought some yesterday on the way home from work, and they are already my favorites. They are definately the stars of my aquarium. They will keep the bottom clean (and mine swim along the sides and clean the glass too), and they are very active.
Edit: maybe you want to save your 10 gallon for a quarantine/hospital tank for now, and then later decide on longer-term plans for it. You know, in case your fish have babies, you have further bullying issues, etc.? |

| I too am in the process of stocking a 20G tank (my 3rd and I have only been in the hobby 6 months!). I think transferring all of your fish gradually and keeping the 10 as a Q tank would be a good plan. As far as the bullied Platy, be sure you don't have too low a male:female ratio. Platys should not be kept in less than a 1:2 male to female ratio or the males may fight. Furthermore, they may harrass the females to death, literally! |

| My vote would be to leave your platys in the 10 and have your guppies/tetras and school of small/pigmy cories in the 20. I am also a fan of the cories, especially when they school. They are so cute. The only thing is I don't know about the platies and the molly's for sure because I know nothing about mollies except they like brackish water I think? I had panda cories and they stayed small. I would rather have more small ones than fewer big ones so they would school.
I completely agree with the concept of having a QT tank... but what is one more tank when you already have two? I am really good at using all my tanks and having to find one on craigslist for unexpected fry, or a quick run to walmart for a sick fish. |
