Well I got weak and bought my 2nd FX5 on Ebay new for $234 shipped. I have been so impressed with its performance on my largest Angel tank that I convinced myself that nothing less will do for my Koi tank. All you have to do is see a Koi's droppings from across the room and you know that your favorite
HOB and
canister filter are not going to cut it, not really. But the FX5 is like no other home aquarium canister filter. The only thing that comes close is the largest Ocean Clear canister filter except the FX5 has its own external pump already attached. Although the FX5 offers 3 canter baskets for those that have a need for exotic media, it is the otter circumference sponge filter which measures an incredible 320 square inches of unobstructed surface area which is just the first stage of the filtering process but the most important. Because the surface area of the FX5 is so large compared to conventional stacked media canister filters, the FX5 can collect many times the amount of debris without suffering flow loss due to restriction.
This coupled with the FX5's 600 GHP output make it not only a superior performer but a bargain at half the price of the comparable Eheim professional III 2080 which is incredibly unaffordable at $450.

, yet having only 1/4th the unobstructed filter surface area and 1/3rd the
GPH of the FX5. So the FX5 is the clear value choice in the super canister category, in my humble opinion.
