Duetto DJ 50

Product : Duetto DJ 50 by Aquarium Systems

Description : The Duetto DJ 50 is for aquariums up to 40 liters (10 USgal). It is an internal filter and is special for fish, reptiles and amphibians. It has 3 filteration cartriges and an aeration feature. It has a mechanical pre-filter sponge, a biological filter and a cartrige with supplementary filter material (carbon, zeolite, etc.)

Pros : It is extremely quiet. It has a flow adjuster with indicator and an air filter and flow adjuster. The water outlet can be rotated as well. The filter can be positioned anywhere in the tank at any angle.

Cons : The only place I can find the filter is online. I can't find it in any stores, so if you wanted to replace some of the filter media you would have to order online. (I live in UK - you may be able to find it in stores in other countries) (this is hardly a con anyway!!!)

Re: Duetto DJ 50

I use this in my Firebelly Toad tank and it works great. I bought mine at a local PetCO - though they didn't sell any of the attachments so you could send the filtered water just about anywhere. Definitely a great filter for a reptile or amphibian tank.

Re: Duetto DJ 50

you do not have to use the special material made just for that filter to replace the media.* Mine wore out in the filter I use in the q tank a long time ago and i use the bonded filter media that is "cut - to- fit" make your own type filter stuff.* It makes fine pretty long lasting easily rinseable filter media replacements and you get a 300 sqauare inch piece of it for around $4.00 US.* (enough for several years)* It actually lasts longer and is more easily rinsed than the original equipment that comes with the filter.* I used the same filter in the small tank that I had Misty in for several months before i got the bigger tank so I know it is just as safe with the substitute media.

I know you probably cannot get this shipped to the UK but this is just to give you an idea what I use.* It is the UNCUT one (312 square inches).

Re: Duetto DJ 50

I have the Duetto Mini which is rated up to 10 gallons for a quarentine tank . One drawback of internal filters in general is the heat output from the motor which slighty warms up your tank especially small tanks. This can be an issue if you live in very warm climates with room temperatures reaching into the 90s. Other than that it's a great little filter that has so many nice built-in features.

I have one of these I use as basically just a surface agitator in my 55 gallon, and as an extra bacteria holder. A great little filter and very versatile. I also use that cut-to-fit filter fiber instead of the carbon cartridge.
