Sometimes the instructions are a bit confusing.
I googled your filter, and everything on the first page was in a language I don't read,......so I would try one of these. They should have the media listed with the filter, or seperate, but make suggestions as to what is right for that filter.

Yes, you need the filter media to make your filter work the way it is suppose to. It provides mechanical filtration, as well as a place for the bacteria necessary for the nitrogen cycle to grow.
