fluval 504 in 65gallon tank

i have a fluval 405 for 65gallon tank. It pumps up to 100U.S gallon. The current is too strong for my discus. Idont want to stress them. But i heard that it is not good to put the vaul on low because it could strain the filter. Is it true/false.

That's false, it won't strain the filter.
