hello i have the fluval 2 plus 105 gph i have it in a 10 gallon tank i wanted to know do i need the bottom of this filter to touch the top of the gravel would this make it work better as of now it is hanging 2 inches above the gravel also what do you look for when it says it tells you when the filter needs to be clean i just bought this so its all new to me also do you just run the plain filter in it that comes with it or do you add carbon filters in there thanks for your time

No, it doesn't need to touch the gravel.
No, by having it above gravel, water gets in from all sides just fine.
It should be cleaned monthly, even if there are no visual signs of needing it.
Unless you're removing medications, there is no need for carbon filtration.
