Natalie,
I am so sorry about Mr. Red.

I do feel so bad for you and all the troubles the little guy suffered.
He did have a good life with a wonderful mother who loved him (and still does) dearly. You can give yourself credit for giving him a great home and all the love you had to give him. You worked valiantly to help him and it just was not to be. I do understand how this feels, believe me.
Please feel free to call on me if you need anything. I am glad to hear that you are considering memorializing him further by getting another betta someday. You know the most sincere compliment you can give to a betta is to desire another. It means they meant so much that you find them desirable. This is not to criticize those owners who want one but are leary of having to go through the pain of loss again. It is for each of us to decide whether we can put ourselves out there again. It is no shame to say that they cannot take a chance on a betta, the tragedy would be for them to give up on fish altogether.
My deepest sympathies go to you and I do mean what I say, if you need something let me know.
Goodbye, Mr. Red....we will miss you very much
Rose
