RIP My Angelfish :(

Today I lost the last two of my beloved angels. For those of you who don't know, I introduced a new angel carrying "discus plague" to the tank, and my angels slowly started to die off one by one. Discus plague is a disease that only affects angles and discus, so luckily the rest of my fish are still healthy and doing well.

My angels were some of my favorite fish, and I started with six over a year ago, and have lost all of them within the last three months. The first one was lost to aggression from my severum. I lost two more in the move. My other three and the new angel were all killed by this last illness. I am heartbroken that I could not do any more to save them. I had them in a rubbermaid tub with a filter and a heater, did daily water changes, and added vitachem and stress coat to their water. I lost the new angel "Spooky" after only a few days. One of my older angels died last night, and the other two died this morning. I am thinking that the ammonia build up from my angel that died last night probably finished the other two off since they were already weak fromt the disease.

RIP my angelfish babies. You were each very special to me and I hope you have fun swimming in the big river in the sky

aw, Kate...that's really awful. So sorry to hear about your losses. It's terrible to lose your special fishies like that. It sounds like you did all you could for them.

I'm sorry to hear about your angelfish. It sounds like you really went the extra mile to save them, but unfortunately sometimes there is just nothing you can do.

Thanks everyone.

I am just so shocked right now. I didn't really expect them to die from this disease. Everything that I have read about it says that it typically only kills very young or very old fish and my angels were all 1-2 years old. It is just so rediculous that I have gone from having two pairs that were breeding to having all of them die on me! I loved my angels so much. Every time I would go to the LFS and look at the angels in their tanks, I would think that they were so ugly compaired to my beautiful babies at home. My whole tank was based around my angels and it looks so empty without them in it. Thanks for the support you guys.

Hi Kate
I am so sorry to hear you lost all the Angels... I know how happy and excited you were about getting the new ones and now to lose your original as well, has to be heartbreaking. I just lost my 2.5 yr old myself unexpectedly so I know just how you must feel. Im so sorry....

Thanks you guys. Its really hard to look at the tank and not see them in there. They were always the first to greet me at the front of the tank and beg for food. I think I may go to my LFS today and see if I can find something else to add to the tank just so that it doesn't look so empty and remind me that they are gone. Sometimes that makes me feel better...sometimes it doesn't....we'll see. I can't add another angel to the tank for at least 6 months in case the disease is still floating around in the tank, but maybe I can find something else that is to my liking. Thanks for all of the kind words everyone.

I don't want to sound insensitive, but if you'd like a really personable cichlid that begs for food like angels, how about a festivum? We have one with 2 angels in a 120 gallon so they will probably get along for you as long as the tank is large, when the time comes that you are able to add more angels.

You don't sound insensitive, don't worry Thanks for the suggestion. Festivums are beautiful fish. I'll have to see if I can find any around this area.

Ahhhh retail therapy. I found some on aquabid today and ordered them. I'm really excited. I also got some Nannacara Anomala, and a school of CW-21 cories.

Thanks Cesch I am saving room in my tank for another angel, so when its safe for me to add another one in, I might want one of your babies from your pair if you have any at that point.

Nannacara anomala are such cool little fish. I had one for a few years in a 20 gallon and it was SO shy. I always kept looking around for a mate but never found another one at the LFSs.
