Tank crashing: farewell Beni

Well, I came home today to find my 75 gallon had gone from roughly 78F to 69F while I was at work. One of my bala sharks, named Beni, passed away from the temp shock. I can't find my bamboo shrimp or my pleco but i'm still looking. My freaking tank turned green to make things even better.

Hana will be a lonely shark I think.

Sorry to hear..

Trust me, I know what it's like. I lost 12 fish in the space of 2 days through no fault of my own but was caused by a pair of diseased fish bought from LFS.

Lost my shrimp Waldo too. Hopefully the others make it through. I have the tank up to 71 and climbing thanks to the heater being cranked right now. Going to go out tonight and buy a backup so this doesn't happen again.

Thanks for your kind words Escobar.

I'm really sorry you lost your fish and shrimp.

It really stinks about the heater.

Well, the tanks are all in the basement and I keep the house at 68F while away at work. I checked the tank this morning before leaving for work and everything was fine. It really sucked to come home to a dead fish. Maybe I'll turn the heat up in the house, although this seems to be some freak accident with the heater.

Just got back from the petsmart. I have 2x 300 watt hydor heaters in the tank now. The old 300w heater wasn't even able to take the tank over 72. I had a single of the new heaters in and it got the tank from 71.6 to 72.2 before the second heater was even plugged in 5 minutes after it was. I think that the old heater was having some sort of problem.

Wow! Temperature changes are sure bad to fish. Delicate guppies will pass away like that.
