this morning, i was close to being late for school. I have to be there by 6:45 am for early morning activities i partake in and I had to make a decision today before departing to school.
I had read on one of the threads I posted about my baby swordtails that they can be realeased when they exceed 1cm. Today before my mom forced me out of my bedroom, I caught each fry from my breeder box, measured them and placed them all in the main tank for they exceeded 1 cm in length, and they looked like they were far too large to fit in mom and dad's mouths, so i released all eight of them today. I have bushy plants and a small cave for them to hide in.
I come back from school today to check on my little sprouts and my total head count was zero. I checked in the cave, the plants, and everywhere a baby fish would find an efficient hidey hole. Nothing. Since they were indeed to large for the mouths of my adult swordtails (the adults are a bit on the small size anyway) i would only imagine the filter got them... I don't dare check until i have to clean the tank again, but even if they were there the layout of my filter would not have allowed survival, the propeller inside is right at the end of the intake tube and....
...well, you get the picture. i guess i can only blame myself for this incident. they were all growing up so nicely, mandarin orange bodies and velvet red tails with adorable little green eyes....
... i should stop now
