Oh my gosh..... I am in shock. I just went to turn on the lights in all of my tanks, and I found Sparticus half eaten floating in the tank. It looked like he had been dead for at least a day. I worked all day yesterday and got home late and I guess I was just so tired when I turned off the lights last night that I didn't notice.
The horrible thing is, I didn't even know that he was sick. He had been acting a little lethargic, but I thought that he was just adjusting to his 10 gallon swimming space and his new tankmates (5 white cloud minnows and 10 ghost shrimp). He had been spending more time than usual in his cave, but I thought that he was just being shy. He had a minor case of fin rot, but I was treating him with fish protector, vitachem, rid fungus, and garlic guard. It just tears me apart because he is the only
betta that I have left from the first 4 bettas that I adopted. He was my favorite. He was so ugly when he arrived (he was an extra betta that the seller threw in as a gift and I am sure he did it because Sparticus was not a show quality betta, just an ugly one that the seller wanted to get rid of). He grew into such a beautiful boy with such a wonderful personality. I had such bad luck with betta diseases this year and I lost a group of my boys a few months ago

I made the decision a week ago to get rid of all of my divided tanks so that I would not spread disease as easily. I rehomed Mizu, Sparticus' roommate in the divided 10 gallon, and gave Sparticus the 10 gallon to himself. I expected my luck to get better after making this hard decision. I did not expect to lose Sparticus a week later.
He was a wonderful betta boy and I will miss him a lot. Swim free Sparticus.
