| Goodbye, our little Sweetie We lost our little 'rescue' betta, Sweetie last night. She started to develop a cyst near the beginning of the year and it finally claimed her. She was always happy right up to the end.
Here's pictures of her from before and after she was healed up and recovered from the injuries she had before we bought her. |

| awe, i'm so sorry you lost your little sweetie she was a pretty little girl.
one question though, i noticed that her later picture, her head and face were much darker than her earlier pic. both my royal blue and flame have this darker face than when i got them.
does anyone know what causes this?
just curious....i've been doing online searches and research on color change i've found lots of info saying pigment changes happen in bettas, but no info on WHY or what it means or if its good or bad. |

| Hi Dave,
Im so sorry to read that you lost sweetie. Its so hard when we have our Betta's for so long and loose them to things like this. There is not much we can do. I am dealing with pretty much the same thing with Darling right now. What I thought at first were a tummy full of eggs, turns out to be a lot of tumors. She is so full of them now and hanging out at the bottom of the tank. It breaks my heart to see her like this. I have been treating her with Maracyn 2 for awhile now, in case its parasites, but there has been no change and she is getting bigger. Only a matter of time for my lil girl, and like your sweetie, she has been with me for over a year as well.
Some things are out of our control... You gave sweetie such a wonderful betta life... with your love and care. to you and Stacy... |

| Well, that pic of her after we got her is misleading since the flash hitting the scales made her look green. At that point, she was pretty colorless with dark stress lines. It took about a month before her color came in and the bars went away, from then on she was a deep blue with a dark mask.
I think the coloring changes is just part of them maturing. Quote:

It is so hard really to watch them like that, but they still draw happiness from our love and attention so we do all we can for them and pray they somehow get better. Quote:
