i lost my catfish :(

today i lost one of my corridora catfish.

facts say it was due to ammonia poisioning
im gutted he appeared fine all of an hour ago then i come home from shopping and he floating

i feel it was my fault but i must must must sort this quick or ill lose my other one and midnight my betta which is a big no no.

could it have something to do with live plants aswell - 2 of them have degraded very quickly and im concerned they may harm my fish some more

Just try to do a partial water change. At least 35% of the tank.
Do you have a home kit to measure the levels of the ammonia?
Also try to put Amquel Ammonia remover in the tank.
I hope it helps.

I'm sorry you lost your cory, It's hard to lose a fish.

Dead plant matter can have adverse effects on your water, it's best to get rid of the dead leaves as soon as possible.

What are your readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates?
Anything other than 0 for both ammonia and nitrites with some nitrates showing is hazardous for your fish and you should start daily water changes until your tank is cycled.
Using Prime as your water condition can help neutralize the ammonia.

What tank is Midnight in? What else is in the tank?

NO3 i believe reads 10 and NO2 reads 1 GH is at >16d and kh is at 6d

ammonia im unsure about but will tell u within the hour.....

somin tells me there all way off

The strips are very accurate, if you can, pick up the API master kit. It's liquid, lasts a long time and very reliable.

If your other tank isn't cycled, please considering cycling it with out fish.

Be careful of ammonia removers. The beneficial bacteria growing in your tank needs the ammonia to feed off it, if you use these products, you could starve the bacteria.
I believe Amquel is one that's recommended to use by other members tho.

I'm sorry that you lost him. I'd remove the plants to a small tub of tank water after doing a 50% water change on the tank. The plants could be putting out nitrites, which would have the same effect on the sensitive corys.

i have done my water change and moved my other corri to the other tank. he has improved slightly but its takin its time as i think he is causing ammonia in QT tank. its bein treated as we type and will be checked daily for improvment. he looks alot better now though.

have also got my main tank back to normal and updated my tank stats for the readings so any comments on them would be gr8

Your readings look good.

Is the quarantine tank cycled? You can take some gravel or a cut a peice of used filter media from your established tank and put it in your quarantine tank to give the bacteria a jump start.

Fish will always create ammonia in your tank through their waste...that is until the bacteria has a chance to develop and process it.
Be sure to do water changes anytime you get ammonia readings.
