it is with great sadness that i say goodbye to my Timmy. He died on tuesday and it has been very hard for me to talk about it here. i feel it was my fault. my baby was taken from me by one of my cats. it was so awful to go to feed him and look into that tank and see him with tail gone!!! all of it!! it was the worst feeling. i hate my cats and have not pet them since. i cried for hours and my boyfriend just didnt get it. "its just a fish" he says. but timmy watched me cook, practically ate out of my hand, and always swam to the window to greet me in the morning. it kills me to think of what he went threw, how he died. i havent even taken down the tank yet. my mom says to save another poor betta in a glass bowl somewhere but i feel theres no replacing him. this is my first year of owning fish and have never had one die before. especially in this awful manner.i miss him sooooo much i hope he forgives me.

Hi Honey... part of the healing is being able to talk about it. I know how much loosing Timmy has affected you. Im glad that you are able to share this with those here that understand... that they are not 'just fish'.. but our beloved pets with so much personality. Its a horrible death for sure.. and you did nothing less than you couldve done. You had no idea that your cats would stick its paw into the small opening in the back of the tank. And you have since closed up the back of your other Betta's tank...
I feel that you cannot replace your Timmy.. but that you can find it in your heart, to honor Timmy. And that way would be to rescue another poor Betta from a cup, the same way you rescued Timmy and gave him a loving home.
You are a good Betta mom... and you just went out and got more plants for Timmys tank, making his ten gal a wonderful home. You can make it a wonderful home for another poor lil Betta that is sitting in a teeny cup.. waiting for you to give and to get love back..
You are on vacation this week.. I hope that you do go and find your Betta that wants to come home with you then...
btw on another note, keep 'feeding' your tank with some fish food to keep that cycle going til you are ready to bring one home..

I know how I'd feel and I know he would forgive you, but he never held it against you to begin with. Bettas are lovers and don't hold grudges. You took great care of him, he had a happy home and was loved.

Stacy says Bettas go to Heaven and little Timmy must surely be happily playing with other Bettas in the water under the bloodworm trees.

You can never replace a lost Betta, but when you're ready you can love another one for him.

My deepest sympathy for your GREAT loss. I lost a goldfish last week and I am still not over it, probably won't ever be. We all can see how much you loved Timmy and we want you to know that although your heart is aching now, time will ease the pain...time and only time. The greatest tribute to Timmy is in helping other Bettas. Please know that we are praying for you and asking God to bless another homeless Betta with the warmth of your love and compassion. thank u so much everyone. i miss him sooooo much. i was thinking about getting another betta last night. i still feel guilty for thinking of getting another one but i know timmy would be happy for me. thanks again to everyone i feel a bit better to hear all of your support

I hope that you go and look at Betta's while you are at home this week and have the chance. But I understand if its too early...

I know it might be too soon for you, but there's a baby out there who needs your love and care.

If you decide to rescue one, it might help to redecorate the tank.

Aww I feel so bad for you..I understand how you feel losing a pet and feeling it is your fault..I to am losing fish right now and it is all my fault for # 1 buying my angelfish from petsmart..and #2 not quarantining them and bringing disease into a tank that just had a bad ich outbreak a couple of months ago and now am losing fish that I babied threw that as well as losing 3 of the original 4 angelfish. I hope you do find it in your heart to love another fish ...weather betta goldfish or some other....another love is out there waiting for you...good luck.

thank u sooo much... i did go to the store yesterday and bought 2 bettas!! im so excited. Timmy will always be my sweet baby bay but i know ill love these guys a lot 2.

im sorry to hear about ur fish..man.. i hate stores that dont take care of the fish. good luck with ur fish

I am so happy that you got TWO! With a divider up and some plants along the divider to kind of break up their line of sight some, you will have a lot of fun with these two! Timmy will always be in your heart.. but now you have saved two more Betta boys.. who are so very grateful to you!
Cant wait to see photos of them and the new tank set up!

Glad to hear you got some new fish...they can never replace the last one but can be your new love in their own way...I did lose the last angel fish and one of my cherry barbs. The other fish are looking better except for the last 2 of the cherry barbs who still look like i rolled them in salt despite having the tank temps turned up to 85 and have treated them twice with quick cure and then starting on coppersafe. I am worried about fin rot so am slowly adding triple sulfa to the tank. ( scared to add anything really ) my 6 albino corys are looking fine and my 10 glowlight tetraas are looking pretty good other than a few raggedy fins on one or two. I have learned my lesson about quarantine tho..never again..that is 2 times in 3 months I have added fish and had an outbreak of disease. ...anyhow...sorry to get off topic here...good luck with your new beauties.

Hi Tina,
I cried when I heard that you lost Timmy. It was such a sad thing to happen, but please don't blame yourself. I know how excited you were when you got him and how much you loved him, but sometimes accidents happen. I am so glad that you got two new boys and I hope that they bring you much happiness. Do they have names yet? I can't wait to see pictures when you finally get a chance.
