Heater cooked Plecos. :(

Due to a heater going nuclear Saturday night and cooking them in the Q tank, we didn't get a chance to take pics of 3 new albino bushy nose plecos that we bought Friday night at the fish club auction. They were real beauties and the water was 120F+. Poor things.

Bummer, I know how many times I myself have worried about heater malfunctions. Why doesn't a mfg. make them with some sort of fail-safe on them? They obviously know what they are for...makes no sense

Any idea how the heater went berserk at all. What brand was it?

It just was constantly heating. A Tetra brand heater. One of the small ones that we had for the little tanks. I can't believe how fast it heated the water. It was only about 8 hours after it was 78F in the tank when I checked it and saw our cooked baby plecos. I won't be buying any products by Tetra again.

Wow I didn't realize aquarium heaters could even get that hot, I mean they shouldn't be able to for obvious reasons.
