PLECKY...PLECKY...NNNOOOOOOOOOOO...PLZ...NNNOOOOOO OOOOO...
my last moments with my catfish where just like all fish lovers nightmares! Plecky swam up the flow of water coming out of the filter where he eat all the stuff off the filter cartrages. At 3:00am i heard a splish splash many times...i turned on the lights and started looking to see if all my fish where there...i noticed that Plecky was not there. I searched the filter where i found him stuck to the plastic eating stuff, i netted him and put him back in the tank (at i was doing this i was thinking of was to rise the filter and said i would do it in the morning). This time at 5:00am i did not here any splashing but the filter motor was jammed, (first thought to mind what oh god pleckys in the filter blades). I quickly ran over and unpluged the filter and looked into it there was Plecky missing skin on his crown so i put some Melta FX in the sick tank and placed Plecky there. I then noticed that the filter had taken out one of Pleckys eyes! I now know he was a gonner and that i would never see him upsidedown on the bottom of the bridge...
I will now show some pictures of Plecky before and after the Filter...I WILL MISS YOU YOU ALGEA EATING MACHINE!!

Re: PLECKY...PLECKY...NNNOOOOOOOOOOO...PLZ...NNNOOOOOO OOOOO...
Sorry about Plecky , Harley. Pleco's can be real escape artists. I had a lovely Gold Nugget that jumped out a very small hole that the filter fits through, into the open dishwasher, silverware basket (with the spoons, forks, & knives) I looked all one day, on the floor etc., finally next morning I went to empty the dishes, and there he was dry as a bone! I felt soooooooo bad. It doesn't help, but these things happen, and it sounds like you are a very caring fish keeper. ANY ONE that keeps an ear tuned like you described, has their heart in the right place.

No, I think the worst feeling is when you see a fish take it's last breath. That is very depressing.

Re: PLECKY...PLECKY...NNNOOOOOOOOOOO...PLZ...NNNOOOOOO OOOOO...
it's normal to mourn a lost pet. they might be in the water, but we grow attached to our little aquatic pets as much as any.

First, I think that the blades are spinning too fast for a fish to fit through(unlike in the movie(s)). To save yourself the pain of watching that again, why don't you cover the intake part of the filter with some panty hose and that way, if it gets stuck, it won't go up? Those are only options, you don't need to if you don't want to.

I think most fish won't be gobbled by the intake, or outlet, because fo their size, but SOME fish do get chopped up. I lost two platys not very long ago to the intake. The tube came disconnected, and two adult platys got sucked up into the filter, all I found were pieces.... A lesson well learned, and now I have the sections crammed so tight, if I try to get them apart they may break. I think just like any thing else, if you scrimp on price for a filter, you may get what you pay for, and that may end up not holding together like one that has better locking mechanisims.

Hey kid i'm 37 yrs old woman and i sobbed my heart out when my Betta 'Blue Eyes' died and i often shed a tear when i read posts of people that are hurting from losing a fish pet!! ( i just shed a few reading this!)
My worst part is that as they are dying you can't hug them and give them a kiss as you can a furry pet!!
I'm sorry he's gone but yes the fact you heard shows you are a good fish keeper. Well done kid

So lower your waterlevel by half an inch, and it won't happen again.
