Re: pleco's yup the cichlids requre vary high ph level like 8.2 and vary hard water. the sea shells raise the ph level, right now i have a peice of drift wood in the tank and thats sucking the ph out of the water so i have to add lime stone and some more sea shells. i still need alot more of rock the tank is so so empty. my 2 plecos love it i think they are about 6 inch long. i want them big because the cichlids will try and kill them so i want them alot bigger then my cichlids and they will be able to run faster.

Re: pleco's The mollies like hardish pH too (though slightly less hard), and it's annoying, as it makes any potentially problematic substance more toxic. Ah well, nothing I can do about it (aside from using Prime, that is).

Re: pleco's You can also go to the carib sea website and take a look at the cichlid substrate. I think they also have one that is crush shells. This will help with your ph issue in your new tank. Also take a look at Texas holey rock which is limestone. The cichlids like to swim through it, and it keeps your ph higher.

Re: pleco's Where are you located? You could try and find some for sale by other hobbyists in your area. Do you have a local club or association near by?
