Platys and swordtails (X. maculatus and X. hellerii), if kept together, can fairly easily interbreed. So it's probably a hybrid between a platy and a swordtail, would be my guess. They're different species, but they can still reproduce and make fertile offspring (like dogs and wolves, C. domesticus and C. rufus).

Funny how the sword is on top of the tail, not at the bottom. I've said it before but hey: nice fish. Really curious about how it turns out if it matures more.
Eep, I got my wolves mixed up. C. rufus is the red wolf, and I was referring to C. lupus, the grey wolf. I don't know if rufus and domesticus can interbreed. But.
My taxonomy professor would be displeased. I am a bad bio major.
Its a really interesting fish!
I think its probably a mix between a sword and a platy, as already said.
Am i right in thinking that most livebearers can reproduce even if it's diff species. My guppy breeds with my balloon molly, is it possible they'll get fry??
Guppy male and balloon molly female! Wow, that boy's ambitious. No idea if they can have fry. You'll have to keep us posted. I know that platties/mollies can.
