Severum Sex?

Picked up this guy (gal?) today...woot, it is a nice fish (got a GREAT deal on him too...got him for $20, was for sale for $70).

Any idea on the gender?

Also..he is just a regular green sev right? I did ask for a red severum (which he is very obviously not), but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

I believe that's a male. We don't get Red Sevs in Aus, (only green & Albino), but that doesn't look like any green sev I've ever seen. Purely guessing but that would be what I would call a Red Sev. The lower fins are clearly red & there appears to be a substantial amount of red across it's back that will develop more when the fish settles in & matures more. Normally the Geen Sevs only have red on the lower fins not across thier backs. I could be wrong though.

Thanks! Here's another shot of him, less stressed and settled in.

You seem to have male Green Severum there.

I don't trust much the method I'm using to sex him which is by noticing two main morphological aspects:

a) pointed instead of rounded dorsal/anal fins;
b) presence instead of absence of patterns in the rostrum (face).

I have a gorgeous 11" female that has pointed fins but no usually visible patterns in her face.

Same way I was sexing it Pepe. I've actually found it fairly reliable. The males anal fin also tends to not just be pointed but have the extra length of the point to it I find. In that second pic it looks like a normal green severum. Must have been because of stress or the way the light was hitting the fish in the first shot that gave the impression it had a red back.
