| 'Golden Shark' ID? Work at LFS...have these guys in, listed as "Golden Sharks". Through some hunting around, I've found "leptobarbus hoevenii" aka Mad Barb, Redfin Cigar Shark. The first pic when you google is this, which is what the ones I have look like:
ALL the rest of the pics show this:
Are they indeed the same fish, and the first pic is the juvie version? If not, what are those in the first pic? (I hope I'm making sense) |

| Nutter you'll telling that the first pic will become as big as that fish in the link you gave? It doesn't resemble it though because the juvenile has got black bars on its body but the bigger one doesn't. By the way I've the same fish that's why I'm wondering about that. |

| That's a Red Line Torpedo Barb juveniles. They'll get different coloration (as scissor tail rasboras) in the tail fin as they grow up. Search for Puntius denisonii profile. http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile...nisonii&id=177
I have four in my community tank, they grow to 4 inches easily. They need to school together so get at least 5 or 6.
A 20gal would be the smallest tank they could thrive, at least as they grow up. Fast swimmers, plant safe, community safe fish.

| You said community safe fish? Can they be kept with guppies or platies then? |

| I keep (or safely kept recently) my small school (almost 6" long) with the following fish: Neon Tetras, Pristella Tetras, Emperor Tetras, Lemon Tetras, Serpae Tetras, White Skirt Tetras, Red Eye Tetras, Red Fin Glass Tetra, Blood Fin Tetras, Penguin Tetras, Black Neon Tetras, Cherry Barbs, Harlequin Rasboras, Scissor Tail Rasboras, Corydora species, Brilliant/Red Tail Rasboras, as well as Australian Rainbowfish, Green Swordtails, Red Platies, Mickey Mouse Platies, even a beautiful Fat Sleeper "Goby" (not a real Goby) as well two wild caught livebearers.
Safe for fish. No idea why someone called them "sharks" (a LFS label them as "Rose Line Shark").

| I wish those were Roselines! Haha, I got some bigger ones (3-4") in a while back, they are definitely leptobarbus hoevenii. They are starting to lose the stripe. They should grow up to look like this:
I wouldn't say they are small fish safe...whatever will fit in their mouths, I'm sure they will eat, they love food! |

I run it with a Clear Aquatic Systems model 75 Wet/Dry sump filter. I have a 5W UV-C Sterilizer running at 200 to 250 GPH, Peat filtration (Fluval Peat Fiber) with a Tetra Whisper 20i (alternately I use Fluval Peat Pellets placed inside the outer box of the overflow) placed inside the sump and charcoal filtration (bags at intake tray).
It reads ammonia 0, nitrite 0, Nitrates 5 to 20ppm (after and before WC). It has three inch depth of Eco-Complete (7 bags). I am using two T8NO 40W Power-Glo (18,000K) and dose once a week with Seachem's Flourish Excel and API's Leaf Zone. I run this tank for almost a year and a half on DIY CO2.
I never overfeed. I let them fasten at least once a week.
