It still looks like a very darkly colored Uropthalmus to me, possibly stressed for some reason.

How big is it?

I asked for the lighter pics, still try for some more if he lightens up a bit.

Honestly you are not going to find a true red devil (Amphilophus Labiatus) at 99% of the LFS.
These are one of the fish that more often than not, although they will look like a red devil, they are a mix of something else also.

An awesome fish but you will need to find a good breeder or order from a reputable distributor to ensure you get a true red devil.

Here are some pics of a young Amphilophus Labiatus I had at about 3-3.5" just before it started going through a color change.

ok so that one that is all diffrent colours a red devil and it is in the process of changin colours thats a pretty big change from all diffrent colours to just a staright flat orange ok so im best off to ring a pet shop that just deals with red devils cause theres a shop about 2hours away from me all they deal with is red devils so im probably best to order one from there but if i dont and i go into a pet shop a red devil should look something like that or if the store is selling a bit mature red devil it should be like a pale orangish pinkish colour right.

ok i cant get any other photos of this fish i dont know what it is thankyou for all ur effort trying to identify this i appreciate it but ive come to a conclusion i dont know what it is so its all okay im going to try and get a actual or close to a red devil so thanks again and when i get my new red devil hopefully i can post some photos .

Hello. I've merged these two posts since there was no response in between. There is an "edit" key at the bottom of every post for corrections and additional thoughts if there is no responses.

Midas are like red devils these days, could be part but very unlikely a pure midas.

Look forward to the new pics!

It has been probably 16 months or so ( last summer I believe) but one of the local distributors here in the city held a grow out competition. Pretty simple, he provided everyone with a fish( about 3/4-1" in size) that wanted to do the competition. He gave no info about the fish, everyone grew it out for about 4 months or so and the biggest fish at the end that person won a gift certificate. I have been looking for the thread for you and finally found it. The fish for the contest turned out to be red devils. I will add a couple pics from the competition so you can see how they change. Just a note, notice in the pics when the fish are young the do have stripes and spots at different time. However your is 10cm and by that time all the marking should be gone, only different color changes should be going on, which is why I said your first fish was not a red devil.

And then you can see once mine changed to a solid color, in the pics I put earlier in this thread. Also the pics I posted of mine I put the fish was about 3-3.5" in fact it would have been smaller then, probably around 2.5".

Hopefully this helps you some.

Sand or gravel will work. However if you use HOB filters I would use gravel. As the fish grows a bit it will move around the sand lots and it will get in the impellor of your HOB and you will be replacing it constantly. If you have sponge filters then sand will be fine.

The pics are very dark but I will look at them more.

Brian

I looked at the pics more. A young fish will have the spots , but the spots on this fish look pretty big. How big is it? 3" or so?
