| | Fish Bum | I recently saw a few bolivian rams. I think that it looks alot like them. If you could get a pic of its tail that might help alot. Hope you find out! |

| | Fish Keeper | Definitely not a ram.
I'm still saying a Vieja until further proof comes. Any more pics by chance? |

| | Fish Master | I would say Vieja as well, but its hard to say with the pic from that angle. Its definitely not a Chocolate. I have a juvie right now and your pic looks nothing like him. I hope you can get in touch with the manager soon. |

| | Fish Addict | Hi PM, i still say the SPOTTED TILAPIA. The one in your picture is lighter in colour because it's a juvenile.

| | Fish Keeper | Okay. I know this thread is old and it's been a while. But I managed to go back to that LFS finally, and grab a sneak peek photo. I met the manager too but he's very anti-social and keeps to himself so didn't really get to talk to him. The worker there (he's really nice and helpful btw, from myanmar I think) approached me and pointed the fish to me and the name was written down on the glass. The fish was moved to another tank and still placed with dividers. He also noted that they are aggressive with each other. So here's the photos. Still have no idea what they are. The name that was written on the glass is V. Argentea. I'm guessing it's the species name.
P.S Hope the photos help, I couldn't get a better shot and it was a bit dark in the small store for my camera. |

| | Fish Keeper | Very well could be, if so I would buy some!
The only thing missing is the black horizontal line running across the face from eye to eye, and another one just above that one. It looks like it may be there just very very faint.
Like I said if thats what they are, an awesome fish, you should jump on them. You may not see them again for awhile. You will need a big tank, but if you get them and grow them out to full size you will be rewarded!

| | Fish Keeper | A Vieja? That's cool! I'm seriously up to it. Just need the tank to Slug! haha
Yeah, I was thinking that, Tony, but my 55 gal right now is occupied by my tetras. Unless I just put the Vieja in the 55 gal with the tetras?
(Vieja's a cichlid right? LOL) |

Maybe they are stressed, he said they were all in one tank but divided for each single fish, maybe not enough space??
I haven't breed these guys yet so I don't know when the lines show up, but I have noticed them on others fish when they were fairly small.

Another thing that makes me think not those, is they were called Vieja Tuyrensis, then Cichlasome Tuyrensis, and I believe 4-5 years ago(not sure exactly when I would have to look it up) they put them in exCichlasoma Tuyrense.
So they will stay in exCichlosoma until they figure out which genus they belong to. I would think if they were showing up again or were a bit more popular in the hobby more work would be done on them at least to find the correct genus to throw them into. But they could very well be, and if so a more interesting fish as they just aren't found without lots of searching and looking.
They look exactly like V. Argentea minus the stripe from eye to eye so who knows, would be nice if peace goes and get some hint hint....

| | Fish Master | Very interesting. Sounds like it wouldn't be them then. Too bad though!. They are pretty whatever they are!. I did find the Argentea on aquabid for $6.50. They are smaller and from a retailer not a hobbyist and show signs of nipped fins but depending on the price of the ones at the LFS it might be worth it. |

| | Fish Keeper | Spencer Jack got ahold of some here early in the year they were about 1.5 for $12.99.
He is normally 1/2 price of anywhere else in the city so normally I would expect them to be $20-25 each.
If you have the space Ch get some you won't be disappointed. I said it in another post recently, I think they are the second best looking (through their whole lives unlike most Centrals) and coolest Central out there.
