I googled young firemouth cichlid and I found something called a "false firemouth cichlid". They seem to have your new guys dorsal fins and eyes.

Does this help?

A lot of fish don't get their "sparkly blue" colors when they're young. He'll color up and show you what he is after he realized what a great new home he has

Maybe get another picture of him after he's gotten accustomed to his new home? I'll bet he'll color up then and ID'ing him may be easier.

Just a thought

He looks like a Firemouth If you hold it in your hand or try to shine light from the side it has the shiny spots or not? It could be mix with Earth Eater.

from what i understood is this. If i flash a light at his body, will the scales shine?
yes, they do.

Earth Eater? would he be ok in the tank with Samson? its 32 gallon. They are and will be the only inhabitants...

ok i thought about what you said, and i understand now. YOu mean like the earth eater? no, he doesnt shine like that at all. I just went to check on him and his horizontal line is gone. He looks like a Convict cichlid, only in gold? his scales are seriously gold looking. I will take a picture tomorrow morning as soon as i wake up.

Hello Tony. Congrats on the new addition. Sorry I can't help identify it. Question? When I click on the video it doesn't contain anything concerning your fish. Was it supposed to? It just shows a bunch of girls. ??

That is just too odd. It's working fine now and before there wasn't a fish to be seen in that video. It was all girls partying.

Morning Guys. Actually it's nightime here. Well I'm going to disagree with everyone. I think it's a baby Flowerhorn.

Nightime not nightmare! It just doesn't look like a Firemouth to me, wrong head and body shape, and doesn't look pure Convict either. Young Flowerhorns over here look VERY similar to the pic, especially the bars and horizontal stripe down the middle. Looks like it has a slight hint of pink in the chest too, although that could be the bag.

Looks like a very young firemouth to me . When i got mine it was around an inch and a half and displayed colors like you say yours does.He or she will probally need a little time to adjust and will show better colors.I'm also thinking it is maybe a she.
