Please help ID this terrorizing fish!

I have a new fish that I rescued, but he is so mean and is freaking all my other fish out. I think I need to get rid of him, but I really love the look of him.
Any ideas as to what he is??

Looks like a red devil cichlid. There is a reason why its called the red DEVIL cichlid. If he is terrorizing your tank, I advise you'd take him back.

Please be sure the next time you purchase a fish, do your research to prevent unwanted aggression and to be sure the fish are all compatible. What other kind of fish do you have in your tank?

Hi Wendlle, Welcome to Fishlore! Thats a Red Devil Cichlid, pretty much the most aggressive Tropical fish you can buy. What other fish are in the tank with it? And how big is the tank?

Hard to believe such error can be made by lfs. Would not depend on their compatibility recommendation/advice, lol.

Def. a Red Devil, they're often confused with teh Red Midas - who is a little less aggressive. I would love to get one actually, but they reach 13" and are nasty, nasty fish.

I had a feeling it was a red devil but wanted to make sure. the LFS had it in with a community lot of fish and they were all getting along fine, they told me he was placid, maybe they just wanted to get rid of him.

I'll give them a ring today and see if I can take him back.

Thanks for the advice and the welcome!

Amphilophus labiatus, red devil, are a great fish.

They can be kept with many different fish, however a big tank is needed and must be well thought out and planned.
Glad they took it back for you.
