Coldwater Pond Fish - A real beauty!

I caught this guy in the pond behind our house. He's unlike any fish I've ever caught before. He looks great in the picture but believe me...he was so pretty in real life that I wanted to toss him in a tank.

Anybody know what he is?

They taste pretty good btw, we catch them here in the spring time (food fish), but they stay smallish (but I would only put them in a 100g+ tank if I kept them as a pet).
