I need help on sexing the Jack Dempsey's.They are about 15 months old and I would like to have a pair for breeding also there are 2 Oscars in the tank that i need help with also.

Oscars are monomorphic meaning you cant tell unless they spawn..they look identicle ...on the jacks ...im making a guess on the first pic...male in the back fem in the front....Males are bigger and have more pointed anal fins...they dont have alot of blue on the gill plates while females have alot of the blue speckled pattterns... the female wil have less color on her body also

Hmmm....the second pic on the left looks like a male, pointed dorsal and anal and spots on gill plate don't go all the way down. The other JD I am not too sure about. Might be a female. How big are the JDs the female is usually a little smaller and their spots on gill plate go all the way down under chin. Usually dorsal and anal are more rounder. As for the O's i've read they are hard to sex. You wont know until nature tells ya'!!

Thanks for the help the size of the Jacks are the one with the most color is about 6.5in and the other is about 5 to 5.5in also how old before they are ready to spawn and would it be a problem since they are in the same tank as the oscars.
