Please help ID this fish!!!!

OK, I did what you should never do and impulse brought a fish , in the shop it said it was a 'Rainbow Goby' - which evidently does not seem to exist but the guy in the shop was sure that was the name and that it was freshwater, not brackish as i assumed, he also said it was friendly and good in a community, so I took him home, and he does seem friendly, likes to hide alot, sucks to the glass and burys every now and then. Im sure he is a goby, but know no more than that

From my fish ID book, he looks like a "Emerald River Goby" or possible
" Peacock Goby".

By the photo in my book, your fish looks more like the Emerald River Goby, if you goggle the name you can click on images and hopefully you will see one that looks like yours. But from what I can see from my book it really does look like the Emerald River Goby.
the book says:
The Emerald river goby is one of the more recent species of goby to appear in the hobby. The lightish-colored body has a few irregular dark bands extending from the snout to tail, but fully mature males develop the shiny emerald coloration indicated by the species common name. Latin name: stiphodon elegans. Subfamily: Sicydinae. size: around 1 3/4 inch (4.5 cm) behavior: active but peaceful. Diet: live foods preferred but other diets including algae accepted.
aquarium: well filtered planted with fine grained substratum, some pebbles and a water current, medium hard water preferred but some deviation tho not extreme tolerated. Temp range: 75-81F ( 24-27C)

Hope that helps!

Hmmmm! Something I never had pleasure of experiencing, must be recent addition to hobby?
Looks gorgeous.
It does looks like Stiphodon Sp as other mentioned earlier. Hope you find what you need to know to keep him/her for long time.

im pretty sure it is a Stiphodon elegans now that ive lookled at that website, i went back to the LFS i brought him from and he didnt know, he's waiting on his invoice, hoping that will say, but it seems to enjoy the company of the 3 khulis at the moment, so ive brought one more, and they are both in their own tank together so i can keep an eye on them...

found a good link, and im sure thats them now. thanks everyone
