I'm not 100% sure but it looks like a Jack Dempsey to me, it has all the speckles on it like mine does, but like I said I'm not completely sure about it.

That's what I thought too, he looks like mine all except mine has the stripes like a convict does, but mine is young still yet. He changes colors so much from one moment to the next, one time he'll have stripes the next he won't. Very amazing fish and they have their own little personalities

Yeah, he was given to me a while ago, and he's about 5 inches so I don't think he's a juvie. He's only aggressive during feeding time and that's it. He's pretty calm other wise.

Well adults are 8 - 10 in., so he is a 'teenager' right now.

they take on some amazing colors as adults..I have 2 and are very shy and submissive fish ...normally they arent suppose to be but mine grew up with some beast oscars ...but even with the oscars gone they still are shy and skittish..but truely colorful

He does turn black when he's stressed. I also have a little guy who looks the same and he turns black quite often. It's pretty interesting.

Yeah they can be quite aggressive when it's feeding time but that just how they are. Mine does really good with my blood parrots and my blue gourami, I think he is the one that rules the roost though, they don't mess with him much. I don't think he is a juvenile either if he is that big, but still a good looking fish

I was a little concerned because someone in another thread said he was a Green Terror, which I thought was far fetched so I looked up pictures of GT's, and he looks nothing like one nor does he demonstrate there traits. I saw some videos of them on You Tube and man they can be really mean! If he was I don't think any of my other fish would still be alive. He does look closest to a JD if anything.

It's kind of hard to tell he look somewhat like both, but he does look quite a bit like my JD

Yeah, I'm not saying it isn't a JD, it just looks closer to a Terror to me.

I know I found a pic on here that looks a lot like that one and makes me think the same thing too.

I think he looks a lot like your Jewel Chiclid, the only difference is the location of the black spot.

My wife just said exactly the same thing when I was looking at the Photo! I don't think it's a Jewel though. Old old is he? Jewels only reach 4 inches fully grown.

I'm don't know how old he is, he's 5 inches long and hasn't grown at all in the past 3 months.

Ok. IMO 5 inch is too big for a Jewel, plus he doesn't really look the same. I would expect a JD to still be growing fairly fast at 5 inchs, but a Terror would be approaching adult size at 5inchs, and growth might have slowed. This is all just theory, but I'm still saying a Green Terror!

So is there like a sub-species category for Green Terrors? Because this is the pic. of a GT that I found: http://www.cichlids.com/pictures/pic...et_bigger.html Some of them look different then others, but I can't find any that look similar to mine, except for the pic. that Amanda posted.

That one is an exceptionally great looking Green Terror showing it's full colours. Cichlids can turn there colours on and off. Colours are also affected by living conditions and stress. Many Cichlids don't show there colours properly when young either. I'm 99% sure that you have a Green Terror there.

Some Green Terrors can be an absoloute nightmare, some are fine. Just keep an eye out for aggression!

i think it's neither. GT should show soilid green/metallic stripe/line across cheek. JD is usually dark color than this. JD forehead is not as high as this and body is thicker than Geophagus.
This fish resembles one of first fish I had/bred (20-30 yrs ago). A Earth Eater, Geophagus brasiliensis (Scientific name may have been changed since I had them) or Hybid b/n other Earth Eater. May show wide color/pattern depending on origin of locations.

It does have the line, it's very faint, but it's there.
