Took me while to find the pic735. Do agree one in the background seems JD w/ black patch on caudal peduncle. If you are saying one in front is another JD, I dont see it as JD unless someone crossed different species or egineered by industries( like Parrot fish). Only seen so called Electric Blue JD (1"-1/2")once, did not strike me that was an JD at all. At first glance, remind me of Cuban Cichlid(Cichlasoma tetracanthus) as far as body shape. Maybe it was and maybe it wasnt. Its not first time where
LFS mislabelled/misnamed.
I am curious as to how you acquired this specimen. Was it from lfs or from breeder if I may ask?
It lacks characteristics that i can remember which are dark patch on caudal peduncle, red edges on dorsal fin & tail, metallic bluelips.
Looking at 735, still resembles G. brasiliensis or its hybrid. Like I said, it is known that lfs lfs misnamed/mislabelled.
Either that some one may have accidentally crossed bred which can yield diffferent offsprings at different generation.
I try not to crossed any species personally or intentionally but have had Texas and Carpintis crossed (accidents do happen as in nature thus so many species), producing differents patterned offsprings, yet beautiful. Even produced more varieties of patterns and colors down the generation (Mendel's?? Law in Genetics).
I finally read earlier posting that this fish turned dark depending on mood. Well, i have not seen G. brasiliensis ever turned dark at all (maybe under extremely stressful/toxic condition which I never have exposed this fish to).
Wether it is important as to know what species this one is to you, i am still curious what this is if not what i think it is.
