Meant Stripes/lines on GT (not faint lines. All the GT I bred/raised had distinct stripes/lines as Juv/adolescent.. Besides even young GT have either faint/bright orange on the edge of tail.
Check the pics of G. brasiliensis, so called Pearl Eartheater.

Even though pic does not show entire body shape b/c the angle pic was taken. General body shape and tail color are of Geophagus brasiliensis rather than JD/GT.

Color of lips are slightly orangish on G. brasil and more intense/bright orangish/reddish (like lipstick on) on G. steindacneri.

It has been so long, cant recollect details as I used to but it appears Geophagus or its hybrids.

The smaller one looks a lot more like a JD. Not saying it is though!

Took me while to find the pic735. Do agree one in the background seems JD w/ black patch on caudal peduncle. If you are saying one in front is another JD, I dont see it as JD unless someone crossed different species or egineered by industries( like Parrot fish). Only seen so called Electric Blue JD (1"-1/2")once, did not strike me that was an JD at all. At first glance, remind me of Cuban Cichlid(Cichlasoma tetracanthus) as far as body shape. Maybe it was and maybe it wasnt. Its not first time where LFS mislabelled/misnamed.

I am curious as to how you acquired this specimen. Was it from lfs or from breeder if I may ask?
It lacks characteristics that i can remember which are dark patch on caudal peduncle, red edges on dorsal fin & tail, metallic bluelips.
Looking at 735, still resembles G. brasiliensis or its hybrid. Like I said, it is known that lfs lfs misnamed/mislabelled.
Either that some one may have accidentally crossed bred which can yield diffferent offsprings at different generation.

I try not to crossed any species personally or intentionally but have had Texas and Carpintis crossed (accidents do happen as in nature thus so many species), producing differents patterned offsprings, yet beautiful. Even produced more varieties of patterns and colors down the generation (Mendel's?? Law in Genetics).

I finally read earlier posting that this fish turned dark depending on mood. Well, i have not seen G. brasiliensis ever turned dark at all (maybe under extremely stressful/toxic condition which I never have exposed this fish to).

Wether it is important as to know what species this one is to you, i am still curious what this is if not what i think it is.

I got the big guy from my brother in law, I'll ask if he knows what it is next time I talk to him. As for the little guy, when I bought him he was labeled as something else, and then when I went back a few days later they were labeled as JD's.

One in the back is most likely JD. One in front does not remind me of any Aequidens, Cichlasoma, or other cichlids I encountered other than G. brasil. Then again never had Geo turned black on me either.

Well I talked to him on on Friday and he doesn't know either. It's really starting to bug me. I still don't think it's a Green Terror, maybe I'll take a pic. to my LFS. I'll post as soon as I know.

why dont you google for Geophagus and see if any resembles what you have. At least you might be able to find out what it is on your own.

Not quite, but close. I found an old book on fish with a picture of a Cichlasoma Octofasciatun, or a Jack Dempsy, and it looks very identical, but he's just not aggressive as everyone makes them out to be, so maybe I got a calm one? So let's just say it's a JD.

Alright, I finally found out what he is. He's a Geophagus brasiliensis, or Pearl Eartheater.

I just now saw your post I was going to make a guess and say it was some kind of Geophagus but I was going for a rhabdotus or the brasiliensis. But I was trying to find a picture of one for you but you beat me to it. Great looking brasiliensis.

Well I was at the fish store today returning a Red Devil (bad idea) and I noticed them in a new tank, so they just got them in. He's definitely the boss of the tank. I'm glad I finally figured it out. Thanks everyone.
