What is this?

What kind of fish is this?

Anyone know, or know where I could find out?

Hmm, not sure. Hopefully someone else knows. Moving this thread to the fish id board.

Merged the two threads requesting the same id. You guys know each other?

Sorry for the wrong forum.

quite the coincidence that both posters used the exact same photo from the web. wow.... stranger things have happened.
Sure is an odd ball fish... is it saltwater or freshwater? It may be easier to find out the ID if we had some idea.
btw welcome to fishlore Eric5112 and jk.weiss

Well, we are not sure what kind of fish it is, salt or fresh.

As for using the same photo, as somebody identified, it is a game hint, and I guess we both had the idea to ask those who might know. As for what kind of game, google or search youtube FRC, or FIRST to get an idea.

It might be a saltwater Permit Fish http://www.thaifishingguide.com/fish...sh/permit.html
or a saltwater Pompano Fish http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3Den%26sa%3DG

The body type matches a silver dollar, but the coloration is that of a red fin piranha and pacu. These three species are the ones most resembling the picture, but I can't find any that matches the coloration.

Is there any indication of size,or is it just the pic with no other info?

I have searched every US parks and wildlife and marine database, and have come to the conclusion that this fish is not indigenous to the US or North America,so I will start looking abroad..............

So far the only closely matching fish is the Silver Promfet (Pampus argenteus)

I think we have a winner (or close) this is from an email sent by a friend of mine in Oregan Parks and Wildlife:

Fishbase is such a priceless resource in the marine lab I work in. The ID page comes in especially handy when we catch something in the field that we're just not sure what it is.

It's a great site and much better than going through state by state parks and wildlife data bases (like I normally do) This site will make it much easier. Thanks
