"no it's not a piranah..."

I've been lurking here nd picking up lots of good tips for a long time. Even when I read advice I already know, it helps to get 2 or 3 different takes on a subject. Nice forums here.

Now I need help id'ing these 2 fish.

Fish 1:

I bought 3 of them about 3 years ago and they have grown quite big. Maybe 4 inches total! They are pretty active swimmers, pretty peaceful, when they eat they feed from food that drops to the bottom. They are in a tank with some Congo Tetras that stays around 6.0 to 6.4 pH.

Yesterday I went to a store and they couldn't id them, one guy thought they were piranahs.

I know that's not right.

They have a bright silver body, all the fins on the bottom are orange, and there is a black spot at the end of the body near the tail, with 2 black marks behind the eye. They are really beautiful fish.

fish 2:

The other one has similar coloring to the Congo Tetras but not the same feathery fins. It has a gold lateral color down the side, and a mostly silver body. Is this also a congo tetra?

Thanks for any help!

Second is a Congo Tetra. Fins might appear later, sometimes during fights/scuffles/nipping etc they lose the flowing fins. A healthy fish should grow them back.

The first one looks to me like a maybe bleeding heart tetra, just it doesn't have the heart... The second is definitely a congo..

The first one is definately not a Buenos Aires tetra. I have one, and it doesn't look like that. It's not a Bleeding Heart, either, those don't have a black spot on the tail. Good luck IDing it!

First one is possibly a serpae tetra and the second is definitely a Congo tetra.

It's not a serpea. The serpea has black a black mark on it's side near the gill and no black spot on it's tail, only on the anal and dorsal fin.
Same shape, though.

Isn't there a tetra called a 2 spot tetra?
I could be wrong though. I've never had tetra's.

I think the 1st fish looks so similar to a Silver Dollar fish.

I would be willing to venture that it's a crossbreed between

red-eyed tetra

and

the Colombian tetra.
